WiiU's big problem was its use of custom discrete hardware which made the ramp up time for it too long, and then made it too difficult to drop the price.
PS4 and Xbone, both built around cheap mass market SOC hardware originally developed for the tablet market (but which wound up too hot and power hungry for it) were able to start with more recent hardware and then drop the price more aggressively.

Unsurprisingly whatever outward similarities there may be to the average fanboy, the key element of the Switch's design is just like the Xbone and PS4 it too is built around a cheap off the shelf SOC.
This also makes it the first time in a while that Nintendo has gotten ahead of the competition technologically as the Switch is the first console to use a Vulkan based modern API instead of the older Mantle based APIs employed by the competition.

It does use 15GB of RAM though.
Also using cemuhook hack helps performance immensely in the demanding areas like towns.It runs at 30fps for the most part with a few fps dip on rare occasions.

I don't buy a whole system for one game. The Switch doesn't really have enough games worth it.

Also I don't have enough to time to play all the games for every system. I'd rather just get the one with the largest library of games I want which happens to be PC.
I have a 3DS and PSP but rarely play them anymore.

It's not about collecting stars. In 64 and Sunshine, you were put in a big open level and you had to navigate it and do whatever the game told you to do to get your star. In Galaxy, you were set on a linear path with the star acting as your goal. Both very different styles of game design

3 things were done differently.

One, it's a console that turns into a handheld. A Nintendo handheld at that. This is important because it means Nintendo wins Japan and third party Japanese support is all but a given since they actually like Nintendo handhelds.

Two, they didn't fuck the marketing on this thing like they did with the WiiU. When they revealed the Switch both initially and at length, it was abundantly clear that it was a new Nintendo console and avoided all the confusing information pitfalls that the WiiU fell into, meaning casuals actually know what the fucking thing is.

Three, they took a page from the Wii success playbook and launched it with a new Zelda.

Yeah, and no one owns a WiiU. Besides, Twilight Princess was in the same boat and that didn't stop it from pushing units like cracking and going on to be the second most popular Zelda of all time.

So yes, it repackaged the concept of the WiiU but Nintendo soft reset the state of things and avoided going full retard from square one, which is pretty much all they needed to do. WiiU wasn't a horrible console so much as a horribly mismanaged one. Switch seems to be avoiding that rather gracefully so far.
