Absolutely for 4K 60FPS and max-ish settings, yeah. Might get away with a 1080Ti now that it exists, but you'll have to drop settings a fair bit in most games to get a reasonably stable 60FPS.

Should I buy the revised EVGA 1070/1080's while they're on sale ($410 and $520 respectively) or the MSI Duke 1080 which is on sale for $440?

The MSI one might be too long for my case, as it's just over 12" while the EVGA ones are just 10.5.

Yeah, it's not like I've been playing games with these cards for nearly a year.

I'm sure your darling 1080Ti gets 60+ FPS at 4K in Witcher 3 with everything maxed. No way you can't get 60 even in a game from 2015, right? How about RotTR? TWWH? Even stock Nier:Automata is so compute-hungry you won't get a solid 60 throughout the entire game.

You don't even need to tell me, I know every game you can't run well is either "unoptimized" or just shit and you don't want to play it anyway.

SLI is so poorly supported right now and you know it. It is always the better decision to get the one stronger card then the two weaker cards, intentionally gimping yourself. And look up any benchmarks you stupid asshole, RotTR 60+ on reference, upwards of 70 on partner cards, TWWH 60+ with reference. As for Nier, wouldn't know, don't own it, no one's posted a 4k benchmark. SLI is worse than a meme, it's unreliable, the 1080ti is the 4k60fps card for anyone with half a brain.

yea, I had an asus 770, put up with it for like 2 and some years just about the warranty was about to expire. Had trouble with pc turning off randomly and couldn't figure it out so I went and tried to RMA the GPU even though I couldn't prove it was defect.
Next thing I know, I got a replacement asus 1070, seems like they need to have the same brand and since they weren't selling 770s anymore they went to the next one in line which was the 1070

I RMA'd an EVGA GTX 770 in November and just got a shitty refurbished EVGA GTX 780 that crashed on driver installation. I RMA'd that and got another 780 and this one had fucked up fans. I RMA'd that one and got a working 780, which hasn't had any problems since.

You must've gotten extremely lucky, unless you went with a different manufacturer. I thought EVGA was the best for these things but evidently not, judging by my experience and this crazy upgrade you got.

Who made your 770/1070?

Thanks man. I think I'll swap to Asus next time I buy a new card. EVGA has nice cooling solutions with their ACX/ICX fans, and their support's decent, but Asus is a big ass company too and a pretty safe bet.

Unfortunately I already got an EVGA GTX 1070 SC for my main computer, so I'm stuck until the warranty expires.

>>376134017
And here's my PC. I think it's pretty decent, probably went a little overboard with the CPU but it runs everything I throw at it thanks to sticking with 1920x1080.

ASUS has its hands on too many products and I feel it in the products I've purchased from them. Monitors seem fine. My GPU and MOBO seem defective. GPU was really loud and sounded like it was rubbing against something. MOBO keeps having USB power outages and have drained 4 CMOS batteries in 2 years.

I just want to take advantage of a potentially huge upgrade near the end of the GPU's warranty, but it does probably come down to the quality in the end. When I'm looking to buy new components I dive deep into what's good in [current year] so I'll still have to check a bunch of reviews before going with any particular ASUS GPU—until then I don't really know shit.

Used to have an MSI card and I felt the same way you're describing though. Really seemed like it was lower build quality than EVGA cards I've used before/since. Felt cheap in a way. And when I started having issues with it, I discovered how bad their support is. That was like 5-6 years ago, hopefully they're better now, but still. One bad experience is enough to jump ship with shit like this, so I get it.

you need a z-chipset if you want to overclock your k-processor, so a z170/z270 will do.
Do some research, I recently bought a Gigabyte GA-Z170M-D3H and it has an orange led that i don't like.
