Nioh vs BB

Nioh doesn't have a great story and the balance isn't nearly as good as BB. Minus all the broken builds you can make, just having a firm grasp of the combat system is enough for you to wreck everything in Nioh easily. The combat is much better than BB, but FROM is better at balancing the game around their combat.

Which sucks considering it's Team Ninja, I think they were scared of making it too difficult and scaring away potential players. That and they don't have much experience with all the RPG shit.

Maybe by some people, but I disagree even though the learning curve is pretty steep. But by the time I was done with the beta I was ripping hino-enma apart and aside from yuki-onna I didn't struggle with any bosses in Nioh like I did with Logarius or Gehrman or the dlc bosses. It might have something to do with the fact that I played NGB right before Nioh as well so I was in the zone so to speak.

Either way both are great games, I just think in total BB is better.

Debuffs and buff stacking in Nioh, as well as making sure you have good equipment, makes the game a cakewalk.

Conversely, if you just tackle it like a Souls game and eschew all the magic shit, it's actually pretty tough.

I barely finished the first run because its combat was just meh, faster sure, clunkyer yes and since I went axe at the start the game felt like it punished me for doing so since it was clearly designed around not using it.

Yeah, that's definitely your problem then. Level can matter a lot or none, depending on what you leveled, but mostly it's just not using magic. The game is balanced for using magic. If you're not using it, you're absolutely gimping yourself.

And, although Niofags don't want to hear this, although the animations all look good, the gameplay itself is actually quite rigid. It's not like a Souls game at all and actually pretty shit when you get right down to it. It's a lot of attack and retreat, unless you actively use parries and crits.

Do every weapons have their little moveset, or every weapons are the same moveset with stat difference?

Niohs combat is great and arguably better but everything else about it is total dogshit.

No matter what it turns out to be, The Mark of the Conqueror is significant.

Before I say why I need to divide the Souls community into two general groups - Conquerors and Conquered - and quickly define both.

Both have basically been around since Demon's Souls, but the very nature of the Conquered demands that the Conquerors come first. Why? Because Conquerors beat the path and light the way. Afterward, like mold or a rot, the Conquered seep into the community, ever at the heels of the Conquerors.

How is that? Either by a lack of information upon release or due to a self-imposed restriction, the Conqueror goes in blind. Conquerors embrace the challenge From Software has extended with each release in their Souls/Bloodborne Series while the Conquered abhor it. While Conquerors scratched and clawed their way through levels and boss fights, the Conquered poured over FAQs, Strategy Guides, Wiki Articles, Google Search Results, Let's Plays and How to Videos.

Therefore the Conquered subsist by virtue of the illumination spread over From's games by the Conquerors, entirely dependent on it. Overtime they've let themselves forget this, fancying themselves old hands as they bring their borrowed knowledge and tactics to bear on each successive release.

And then here comes f***ing Nioh, reminding the Conquered who they really are. And with little to no documentation in sight they hide behind s***posts so they can cling to that "gud" status they worked so hard to attain. Eventually they'll be back. Once the Conquerors have shown the way, that is.

Nioh combat has more moves and options, but it all feels superfluous because the enemy design doesn't force much out of you, you use these moves just to feel like your point investment wasn't worthless and to make the combat look flashier in a game that doesn't reward style. The combat depth is also in this irritating middleground where it's more complex than Souls/BB but just as repetitive, and repeating the same 10 moves over again in Nioh manages to be more tiring than repeating the same 4 in Bloodborne.

The loot system also contributes to the repetition, on top of, of course, literally repeating missions and maps.

I'm interested in what they might do in a sequel, but after paying full price for the base game, I'm not terribly interested in dumping more on DLC that may or may not "fix" the game.

You can transform into different characters using Glory, which you can get from revenants (both offline and online), coop and pvp. The four women skins are pretty expensive though. I'm fairly sure you don't need PS+ to see online revenants, but that'll still take a while. Coop and pvp are faster but you need PS+.

Nioh was always a character-driven game with a conventional story, even well before it was a Souls-like. You need to remember that the script they used for this incarnation was first written when Team Ninja were assigned the game in 2010, back when it was basically just Sengoku-era Ninja Gaiden.
