The phrase “you only care about this game because it's exclusive” gets thrown around a lot here, and around 95% of the time I think it's bullshit.

However this is one of those exceptions, not saying the game looks bad but it's getting way too overhyped because it has the Nintendo logo on it. The fact that people think this is some “revolutionary” fighting game is laughable when in reality this shit was revolutionary 10 years ago in the Wii era when the Wii had a bunch of these games.

It's kind of like Splatoon, while Splatoon is cool and all if you put it on Playstation and Xbox nobody would care, but because Nintendo finally made an online multiplayer game it's supposed to be this “unique” and “revolutionary” thing

Both Splatoon and Arms are pretty unique amigo. Not revolutionary, but they are something different. I liked Splatoon but I'm just cautiously watching Arms right now because it's not gonna be remotely worth the money if there's nobody to play against. Can't think of any Wii games that played like Arms does. And Nintendo has done online multiplayer games before, fighting games as well as shooting games, so that isn't really a factor.

I can say I don't know how much I'd care about the game if it was on another console because who would be making it? Being familiar with a developer's previous games is inevitably going to influence how much faith you put in new games from them.

Isn't wagglin' a bit of misnomer nowadays anyway? The whole thing came about because the wii controls weren't actually 1-to-1 motion of the controller to movement in game. You just waggled the appropriate way and a canned animation happened. Just a button press with a different in put.

They got beyond that with the Motion Plus, though it still kinda sucked. But it wasn't waggling anymore, you moved the way you needed the thing in the game to move. That's how it works in ARMS. You punch forward, you punch. You twist the joycon, the punch curves according to how much you twist. You point the joycons together, and the arms cross in the game similarly. You're not just flailing about to get a thing to happen. This doesn't mean it's a good control scheme, motion controls will always have the problem of being way more effort than just a button press for the repetitive nature of games.

I see people complaining about the gyro controls in Splatoon as if it was waggling too.
