Fill me in, boys
What is Denuvo, and why do people hate it
>>376084376
anti tampering which means no pirating
>>376084456
As someone who actually buys games, it means nothing to me, right?
Denuvo is the latest in a long string of anti-piracy software for video games. We don't have any conclusive word on its impact on actual game performance. We also don't have any conclusive evidence on how it affects sales. Yet, both are used by both sides to claim it's good or bad.
Piratefags are butthurt about it because games aren't cracked at release anymore. Anti-piratefags are butthurt because they still get cracked eventually.
DRM that encrypts the exe and causes unnecessary cpu overhead
also prevents modding beyond model/texture swaps and basic script editing
>>376084516
pretty much, but there is a rumor that it effects how the game runs on systems.
>>376084516
Not exactly, it also means to tampering with the .exe, so no mods/fan patches that need to do that.
It's also inherently a waste of CPU cycles, but how much of a real world impact that'll have on a user depends on how the dev implements denuvo.
>>376084376
Because /v/ hates everything. Even their favorite games.
>>376084456
good
>>376084752
>to tampering
*no tampering
I'm also reading that it can damage your SSD. Is that true, or just a rumor?
I've decided to use my summer for playing aging FPS games, and Bulletstorm's remaster uses Denuvo. Wanted to get caught up on what exactly it is before I make a purchase.don't turn this into a Bulletstorm thread, please
>>376085031
That was an initial claim by some literally who. Other people have been unable to replicate his claims, so it was either a deliberatly false claim (to discredit denuvo), or a bug.
>>376085031
No, all operations are done in memory.
>>376085148
>>376085117
Sounds good to me.
Thanks.

send that abomination back to speed run hell

DRM created by Eletronic Arts to prevent you from pirating a game before buying it, on top of costing the devs precious money and development time for implementing it into their games that could be used to further refine the games themselves.
TL;DR it's dogshit.
