Is it worth getting the new 2DS if I never had any of the DS iterations?

Does it have any must-play titles that justify it?
>>
>>376063529
its worth getting if you dont care about the 3d, and there are tons of games for the 3ds that you yourself have to look into. i find that it has the best library of games in this generation

>if I never had any of the DS iterations
Yes, 100%. It's worth it to get at least a DS, not sure how much more this would be than a DS but it can play more things than a DS, and I'd say a 3DS of some description is worth owning.
For the DS you have: The World Ends With You, the Castlevania games (Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia), Meteos, the Mario and Luigi games, and Dragon Quest IX.
And for the 3DS you have: Shin Megami Tensei IV and IV Apocalypse (not played Apocalypse myself, but I hear good things), Kid Icarus Uprising, and Kirby.
Then on the eshop you have Liberation Maiden (which is really dam short, so maybe wait for a sale, but I like it), a bunch of Picross games, and Blaster Master Zero is on here as well as being on the Switch, not played that one myself, but people on here seem to like it and I'll probably pick it up myself soon.
And then of course a bunch more on both, that's just some stuff
>>376065767

There should definitely be a lot of JRPGS on 3/DS off the top of my head, but I wouldn't be the best person to ask about JRPGS

I never got a 3DS.
I eventually got a 3DSXL.
I have:

>Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (Water combat is was a dumb idea)
>Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (Best 3DS title)
>Monster Hunter Generations (Casual garbage for garbage casuals)

>LoZ: A Link Between Worlds (Casual non-linear link to the past)
>Ocarina of Time 3D (not the worst remake)
>Majora's Mask 3D (worst remake I have played in my life)

>Animal Crossing New Leaf (Glorified commune management and furniture simulator)

I intend to get Ever Oasis (Kingdom Hearts X Monster Hunter X Legend of Zelda) which comes out on June 23rd.
I have skipped getting a New 3DS, New 3DSXL and original 2DS.
New 2DS XL interests me, but the one and only "new" brand exclusive game I care about is Xenoblade Chronicles and I need more than 1 game to justify laying down $150 for a handheld.

The exact 3DSXL I got was the Animal Crossing one and I was once told by a friend that from a distance it looked like I was staring intently at child's pokadot panties in public.
So I bought some nice cheap black metal faceplates that clip on off amazon.

At this point, the 3DS family is Nintendo's budget line and the Switch is the premium product, but within the 3DS line, what they seem to be trying to do is:
>budget entry-tier model - old 2DS
>half-way point model - new 2DS XL
>premium top of the line model - new 3DS XL

>New 2DS
You can get a standard 2DS for half the price ($75-$80) if you are looking at a budget, and I'm seeing a few New 3DS XL available for $180. I suppose if you were on a budget but really want the Amiibo reader in the device then it would be a good deal, but that seems a bit situational.

>Does it have any must-play titles that justify it?
BoxBoy series, Kid Icarus Uprising, Legend of Legacy, Puzzle & Dragons Z, Rune Factory 4/Story of Seasons, and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call are probably the top games exclusive to the system. You certainly want to play Theatrhythm and Kid Icarus, at least.

>I'm seeing a few New 3DS XL available for $180
Don't forget that it doesn't come with the charger
>>
>>376072160
Theatrhythm is honestly fairly easy, especially compared to most rhythm games. The hardest difficulty is a bit challenging, but honestly there is enough room for error that you could get through any song without too much trouble. The big draw of the game are the dungeons, though: you're basically playing through 10 random songs in a row or so with the same meter, and putting together your party to deal with it, so it's fun to do.

Also, the rhythm patterns are fairly well handled. Lots of moving the directional buttons back and forth for "slashing" during action scenes, good application of the timing for button presses, and so on.

>BoxBoy
Puzzle platformer. You sprout boxes out the sides of your character (number of boxes limited by the stage) and can toss them down, push them, and hop on top of them. You can only do that once - although specific stages and later games let you do it twice - so it requires figuring out which form you need to use to get past the situation. Some forms required involve something tricky, such as extending the boxes to make a platform beneath you.

You are thinking the New 3DS. The New 3DS XL systems generally do come with a charger. Although if you get one used, you will want to be sure that it has a charger.

Although, does the New 2DS XL come with a charger?
>>
>>376073032

>>
>>376072924
Have you played Mirai, how does the difficulty compare to that? Dungeons sound pretty cool, how does the party system work? I know it exists but that's about it, I don't know what it does.
Yeah, from what I've played of the demo the patterns do seem pretty cool, haven't managed to clear it on the highest difficulty but JENOVA at the start with the slashes is really cool, kind of surprising how fun it is despite it not requiring specific button presses, but it does have the stick movements I suppose.
BoxBoy looks pretty neat, I'm going to have to give that a look. Would starting with the demo of the third give me a good idea of the first game, cause I'd probably want to start with the first but the third is the one with a demo

BETTER TO LEAVE THREAD IMMEDIATELY IF YOU HAVEN'T.

I don't understand how people can play a game like Monster Hunter on a handheld. Controls for 3D games are borderline abysmal and even for 2D games the d-pad is far from perfect.

If I didn't get a good gamepad grip, I wouldn't be able to play with this thing (3DS XL) at all. I don't even want to play anything that needs precise inputs.

Also, the 3D is worthless.

>but I have no clue if I'd like them or not

>>
>>376073979
>Have you played Mirai, how does the difficulty compare to that?
It's more challenging than Mirai. I do like the jPop songs in Mirai, but outside the six Super Hard songs and that one skeleton dance, everything is exceptionally easy. The biggest real complain I have with Mirai, though, is that getting a 100% perfect isn't difficult, but you don't get any special notice for getting 100% Cool (all notes perfect timing). That would've been something to work towards.

Theatrhythm does note both when you perfect string a song and when you manage to 100% Critical it (all notes perfect timing), so there is more to work towards. And while the hardest might not be on the level of Super Hard Mirai songs in how they throw notes at you, they can still be quick and require a pattern that is easy to flub up.

>how does the party system work?
You select four characters. Each character has stats, and stills they can equip - up to four, and characters have "skill points" which limit how many they can use at once. Character stats for the most part influence stuff not relevant to the song, such as damage dealt to monsters or distance traveled during walking songs. Their HP is totaled for the "meter" or how much you can mess up before you fail a song. So if you want to kill a bunch of monsters (for treasure drops) or something the stats and character levels matter more.

Character skills generally just trigger specific attacks, or healing as certain points. Some can be negative with a positive benefit, such as "Dark" increasing STR but you take more damage.

>Would starting with the demo of the third give me a good idea of the first game
Apparently, the demo for Bye-Bye BoxBoy includes stages from all three games, so that would be a great place to check them all out.
