I gave Nintendo a shot. I wanted another GameCube.

I got a few games which were worth playing if you had the system, but nothing really outstanding to get me to buy it. The library was just too limited. I'm glad I bought it refurbished for $200 because I would've been pissed with a $300+ price tag.

Had a hell of a time playing smash 4 at college with my 3 roommates and people who came over. Would swap out smash and beer pong on weekends with all the people who came over. Wind Waker was fun to play again, and Xenoblade was the shit.

Wasted potential. Nintendo threw away another generation clinging to weak hardware designs, oddball controllers, and old distribution mentality. Today, they are slowly catching up to Sony and Microsoft in terms of online infrastructure and integration, but they are dragging their feet. Wii compatibility felt more like a crutch than a bonus with most third party devs not even trying with this device. Nintendo looked desperate bankrolling second party titles like Bayonetta 2 and Devil's Third.

The design potential in the WiiU appears to be realized in the Switch. Let's see if Nintendo can get some real traction this time.

No, selling expensive hardware at a loss in an attempt to ape a shrinking market they have little foothold in is not a good idea. "Dragging their feet" had been nothing but good, we didn't have paid online or DLC out the ass when Nintendo was still 10 years behind everyone else.

They need that "oddball" design because that's what sets them apart, they aren't going to thrive on multiplats and ports because the audience is simply not there. Third party devs largely ignored it due to the audience they sell their AAA games to not being there, not because of the hardware, they still made original Wii games into 2016 and 2017.

Doing their own thing is what will keep Nintendo in business, even if it doesn't always work out, like the Wii U, not trying to do exactly what their competition is doing. I do agree that the Switch seems to be conceptually what the Wii U ideally would have been, though.

Third party devs won't bother because the audience they want isn't there, that's all there is to it. AAA development is far too bloated, and the games just don't sell well enough on Nintendo platforms, better hardware won't magically change that. These same third party devs had no problem making Wii games in 2016/2017, hardware is not the issue.

And look how that turned out for Sony and MS, they lost literal billions doing that. Nintendo realized early on that they can't just keep pushing better hardware, its not profitable. Third parties need to be willing to make more than AAA multiplats, they need to make games that would actually sell well on a Nintendo platform, not just port games that 9/10 people will buy on PS4. They are afraid to take any risks.

It was a solid console for me, I've bought it on 2014, so I've kinda played it on it's best year. Isn't exactly a very good console, but it was really fun while it was alive, I still play it daily too.

The tablet is just a secondary screen for the system, so no. It's nice to pick up and carry into another room, but it still needs to send/receive from the console so you can't take it out with you. The console itself is still running the game.

It's best use is probably allowing someone to play the system while somebody else is watching a different channel on TV - basically, letting the kids play while the parents watch the news. Nintendo was fairly terrible at advertising what the system actually did, though, so most people still don't understand how it works if they didn't have one.

The Switch does what you are asking, though. It's the whole console in the tablet, can be picked up and taken with you elsewhere. The Switch dock is just for connecting it to a TV, and isn't requires for the Switch itself to run.

I like it, but admittedly I'm a bit biased. I picked one up almost brand new in a Mercari listing for $50, and all the good games are cheap now so for less than a hundred I'm sitting on Wind Waker, Lego City: Undercover, NES Remix, Nintendoland, DKC: Tropical Freeze, SM3DW, and Ducktales Remastered.

Pretty much, but let's be honest. If the sony advertising machine didn't have seemingly unlimited cash on hand to advertise the ps4 and if microsoft hadn't had an abortion on-stage at e3 with the bone, the whole generation would have been different.

Wii U was a great idea with really really really good customer-consciousness as a priority, but Nintendo could never decide what features were worth keeping and what was worth cutting.

It was a fumble. A fun console while it lasted, but really had too many missteps to ever recover from

In a lot of ways disappointing. But I did manage to get a lot of hours out of MK8. I did literally everything I could in that game, including the 200CC DLC. It was fucking spectacular.

Pikmin 3, Dong Freeze, 3D World & BotW are also stand-out titles for me.
