If I do, which I usually don't, is for:

Reason A: They are seldom a choice in serious games. Most female main characters only show up in glorified slut simulators or "hurrdurr realistic womyn struggles!" a la latest Lara Croft games which I sorely dislike. When there's a chance of making a badass female character, I feel the NEED of taking it.

Reason B: If playing a male character I will likely be showered by whores wanting to ride my dick. Unless going full homo is a choice, I don't have the time to be shooting down FUCK ME SENPAIIII advances every five minutes without feeling like I am playing a neet pandering simulator.

Reason C: I made a cool chick concept for a character and want to see it play out.


I am more likely to play "joke" races or handsome dicksuckers though, so eh.

Usually for variety sake. I don't always play as a female, but if it seems like the game has unique enough interactions or scenes to make it interesting. I usually switch it up if its my second time playing.

That, or I hate the customization options or voice work for male characters in a game. I played as Fem Shep as my main through all 3 Mass Effect games because I could not stand Male Shep's voice actor.

While I disagree on Femshep, I still have played as her, and didn't like the character as much as Male Shep. More for the dialogue that fit for a guy in some cases, and then for some of the animation stuff on cutscenes. Plus, the box art for the game, and nearly all the commercials feature Male Shep, so that's who I associate most with the OT.

However, for almost literally every other game, I'll play female, just because. Especially if I can stick her in some armor that looks legitimately scary. If my option for a female characters armor is a bikini, then I'll just not play that game lol. Or, like in Wildlands, if the female character has a shit-tier, phoned-it-in voice actor, then I won't play it.
