Only disappointment is how the game focused more on the gangsta rap scene of the early 90s than early 90s culture in general. You have a plot involving the government and aliens that never got resolved plus a ton of content was cut from the final release. San andreas was even supposed to have internet in it.

Meh, Vice City certainly holds a very special place in my heart. SA was great, but it never reached the same level of A E S T H E T I C as VC did. For me SA kinda lacked the little details which just fitted in nicely, like the lights trailing in turns, chalk marks around bodies when they despawned, that miami vice duo with the cheetah. Rockstar did not go crazy enough with SA imo.

SA is still the most impressive game upon release. I was absolutely floored as a kid.

When I revisit it, I play it strictly through a crt and the PS2 lighting shaders. The PC fucking ruined the game's visuals. It was amazingly comfy on the PS2.

All things considered V is the best game just because its the most modern, but SA was the most impressive release. Every single one of my friends was playing it and were similarly blown away.

I still think its the best game for cruising. Shit draw distance goes a long way

GTA4 got almost nothing but praise for years. Eventually, when we started getting actually good games that generation, people starting becoming more willing to admit that it wasn't a very good game. The funny thing is that all you needed to do was compare it to SA and you'd find that it was an immersive, next-gen experience that forgot to be fun. We were shitting on GTA IV's shit fps, gray visuals and HORRENDOUS missions from the getgo, fuck off. The 10's were called out as bullshit from the start by anyone who wasn't a dip.

On consoles it had an extremely bad case of same-car, empty streets with no npcs. Made some of the areas look like a joke.

And people did not take the gritty tone and less wacky stuff well AT ALL. I think it goes deeper than that though. I think most people subconciously wondered why the fuck everything felt so sluggish to control, and what they really are complaining about is the fact that GTA stopped feeling like an arcadey game. Everything immediately became a fucking slog.

What I like about the PC version is that if you don't have any songs on the radio station that plays songs from your computer is it will play commercials. I spent a very long time listening to just the commercials before actually listening to the radio.
