Honestly I don't get the hate for the story in the untold games. Sure, they characters are anime as fuck but the game itself is anime no matter how hardcore it is. I mean, look at the art. Besides it's optional, classic mode is a choice from the beginning.

Couldn't finish the first untold since I got stuck on the bird boss from the 4th stratum but the story wasn't bad and Ricky was cute as fuck. Raquna was amusing too to say the least.

I'm currently playing the second untold game and got no complains either.

This is one of my favorite types of setting, I wish it were more common.
Medieval Fantasy society with a stable social structure and towns/cities at the start, but it slowly becomes apparent that it's deep in the future and the old world has been largely forgotten.
Only EO, 7th Dragon, and Shining Force have done this as far as I am aware, since so many games just resort to a wasteland type setting that wastes the whole premise for me.

1 and 2, especially 1 aren't incredibly story rich, they are very old games.

If you do wind up giving them a shot, I'd definitely recommend playing with the where are program that adds a smarter automap, quest log to all of the older Might and Magic games. Really makes Might and Magic 1 and 2 play much better.

Speaking of this, can anyone sum up the last tree for me? Spoilers for people who haven't played.

Tree 1: Etria's tree was vast, covering several environments and burying the core deep below the former Shinjuku, and stretching so far and deep that it became the new ground people walked on.
Tree 2: The tree of Simon's homeland is unknown, as the containment protocol was successfully executed and the tree was destroyed in the blast.
Tree 3: The tree of High Lagaard was moderate, high in height to a ridiculous degree but the depths were largely restricted to the roots linking it to the Core contained in the Ginnungagap Facility.
Tree 4: Armoroad's tree was intelligent and was the only tree so far not to go rampant. It doesn't seem to have the same base as the others and instead of containing pollution it contains, well, you'll see if you play EO3. It was fairly standard in size.
Tree 5: Tharsis's tree was contained relatively well, and the Core (the Titan) only went rampant after being unsealed by the Prince, but it was much, much smaller than the other trees. The containment protocol ended up being far more dangerous than the tree itself.
Tree 6: EOV's Tree is massive, reaching into space and covering more than a whole continent. I don't know much about it. I would ask not to spoil it.

Untold's way of trying to tie everything together sucks shit. EO1's was the only one that was man made, it was to cleanse the earth. In the original 2, it was just a giant tree, they never mentioned anything about it and it was how the people that took refuge in the flying castle knew that the earth was inhabitable again. 3's was an alien that chased the Abyssal God across space and when it landed on earth, it sunk half of Armoroad to keep it sealed underground

Just the other day I started playing untold 2. I'm new when it comes to eo games, this is my party for expert classic:

Will this be OK or will I get my ass kicked down the line? So far (1st stratum, 2nd floor) it works fine. Gunner using defend/cover fire is my main healing atm
