It was also kind of thematic. In Starcraft 1 Terran were space rednecks/criminals with a twinge of Vietnam in there. The units, for the most part were the dregs of society and it gave them a lot of character. The other races were pretty top-tier 80's-esque sci fi as well.

In SC2 they just went with generic sci fi humans. I'll always prefer the grittier tone of SC1.

Arcturus Mengsk's Dominion yes, to a lesser extent. The whole 'Defend the Emperor and the Core Worlds' spiel meant there was more voluntary enlistment. Heck, both groups even had examples of people they specifically DIDN'T resocialize in order to allow them to make their own decisions (War Pig Company, Esmerelda Ndoci).

You also don't have to be resocialized to be a Marine, it just ensures that you don't have to be picky about who you recruit. Its a safe bet that all the Raiders are clean, along with most of the extra-Dominion powers like the Umojan Protectorate.

Valerian banned the procedure (at least off-screen) so it'll probably go the way of the 501st Legion in Star Wars.

You make due with what you have anon. I think there was more of an imaginative component too, since you couldn't see everything and Blizzards sound design used to be top tier. That goes beyond fapping too, it is a travesty when you listen to something like a zealot in SC2. In the first game they actually sound zealous with their acknowledgements and voice lines, and their combat sounds are visceral as fuck and actually make it sound like they're psionic alien warriors ripping apart zerglings and marines, punctuated by clouds of gore. SC2 zealots wave glow sticks in front of the enemy and barely make noise, its god damned sad. Same thing happened in DoW, I don't know why they decided they needed to make everything more mild.

I'm not great at RTSs but I started playing SC's Terran campaign and I still don't know if I'm effectively attacking encampments.

Generally I'll make 2 platoons for up-front attackers and the other just marines and then send them off.

But I seem to have trouble when the enemy is up on elevation and there's only so much ramp space to work with
