Never played a Civ game before, about to play Civ V (complete edition) for the first time. Anything I should know beforehand? Also never played many strategy or RTS games before, which I'm assuming this is akin to.
Food and Population are the most important (and related)
More production = More science/production
Try to keep your happiness positive
Avoid Huns
game is really easy so you should play on immortal at first and work your way up to deity

Also, ignore this
How is Civ VI to Civ V?

It's shit
Might get better with expansion but it's not worth buying atm

Distrust Ghandi, the Memes aren't memes without basis.
Gandhi is a warmongering fuckface in Civ.

Not great, but then again every Civ game after civ2 has been absolutely garbage at release. But by the time 2 xpacs come out i always prefer the latest.

When you get bored of vanilla get the Vox Populi mod. It's better mechanically than anything Firaxis has ever done. As for gameplay it's more fun to just figure it out yourself during your first couple games but here's some advice.
>science is the most important thing ever
>Tradition and Rationalism are the only policy trees that aren't shit
>don't over expand/conquer and wreck your happiness
>make roads and don't settle too far away (more than 8 tiles)
>use the building queue

Scout as much as you can early on, huts are very important
The AI isn't very good so even if he's slightly stronger than you, you can consider yourself ahead in military
Try hating the AI who are hated by other AI, that will give you a good rep among them
The only fun victory condition is conquest. the rest range from meh to totally boring
German, Iroquois and Siamese are the strongest AI imo, so be more careful

not really but he's a fucking hypocrite. if 2-3 people declare war on you, you can bet this sleazy rat will for sure stab you in the back and join in
