Will anyone buy this?
>>
Me
>>
>>376028996

Yeah. I will buy a game I already own.
>>
I might, to give it another chance. I gave away my original copy.
>>
>>376028996
me, borrowed it from a friend when I was much younger and had to give it back. gonna play the shit out of this
>>
>>376028996
Never played it so yeah, once it reaches ~$20 around black friday like FFX
>>
>>376028996
Yes, because I don't want to have to dig out my PS2 to play it. And the job system looks like a nice addition. Also I'm nostalgic for that music
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgvaZ1F7Ox8
>>
I will buy it just to use Scourge, Ardour, and Flare all at once.
>>
me, but when it is at 20€ like i did with FF X/X-2
>>
>>376028996
I want this and 10 on switch.

How comfy that would be.
>>
>>376028996
Of course. It's the best version of the best mainline.
>>
Without question. XII is my favourite Final Fantasy.
>>
>>376028996
If you still can't emulate PS2 games somehow, but own a ps4, this will be your first time to actually buy 12 in about 11 years.
And it's a really fun FF game with a fuckload to do.
>>
>>376028996
Yep, it's one of the few good ff.
>>
>>376028996
I'm considering it, though i think i will wait for a deal
>>
>decide to finally emulate IZJS
>play it a bit between other games
>literally a week later this gets announced
>drop it and wait for this instead
>>
Never played it and I'm too lazy to emulate.

So yeah.
>>
>>376028996
I'll wait for the 30th Anniversary huge pack with all the games for ps4. And sell the physical shit to pay for it because I'm no THAT much of a weeb.
>>
might be my entry to the series
>>
>>376029194
It would actually be really nice to have a portable FFXII. Although I wish they had trophies on Switch, I know they're cancer and pointless but occasionally on big games it motivates me to 100% them
I wish more games had the early Ratchet and Clank style achievements, that were mostly just silly side stuff that you wouldn't have done otherwise

I mean, I've already bought it like three times and pirated it once.

So, yeah...
>>
>>376028996

Anyone who would buy this is spending $50 for slightly better graphics. If they cared about the gameplay, they would have emulated it during the past 10 years. That, or they're too dumb to figure out emulation which is even worse.
>>
Already did
>>
I'm hype as fuck for it
>>
>>376030293
Dumb piratefag, at least read the fucking thread before dumping your shit here.
>>
>>376030293
>dumb to figure out emulation which is even worse.

Does saying that make you feel better?

Emulation actually doesn't appeal to a lot of people.
>>
>>376028996
Me.
>>
>>376030293
I dont really enjoy emulating games. Juat doesnt feel as satisfying and authentic as playing it on the console it was intended for. Kind of feels like cheating.
>>
Matsuno games = instant buy, evern if they're ports
>>
>>376030293
i have a great PC that could emulate it, but you can't admit that sometimes emulation is a pain in the ass. Sometimes you just want to sit down with a fully functional product that you don't have to work for in the slightest, and that's fucking worth my money
>>
>>376030585

I did read the thread, here's a summary:
>I gave away my copy, and I forgot emulation existed.
>I don't want to dig out my PS2, and I forgot emulation existed.
>I'm too lazy to download an iso and run it through PCSX2.
>>
It's been on my list of things to play for a while. IZJS is really bad for a normal playthrough, but there are probably some decent challenges within due to the job system.
>>
>>376030761

This isn't 2002 anymore; you'd spend more effort actually purchasing it than you would downloading an iso.
>>
>>376030978
Dumb piratefag, I have the game emulated. It's an amazing game, one of my favorites of all time. I don't give a shit if I sound like a shill, I wanna support the people who made the game, and considering they're back to work on TZA buying this means I will be supporting them. Not to mention there's slight differences between TZA and IZJS so it's doesn't mean shit that I can emulate IZJS.

Also I'm a sucker for steelbooks. Anyways, fuck off.
>>
>>376028996
Wouldn't pay $50. They're nuts for asking that, but I'll get it eventually.
I'm looking forward to the camera controls being fixed. That's the only reason I don't want to play the original.
>>
>>376029183
Job system wasn't very good, way too limiting. Luckily, they let us have 2 for this version.
>>
>>376030293
I only emulate up to 5th gen because of my accuracy autism. I'll wait another 5+ years until full LLE PS2 is possible.
>>
>>376029969
>Although I wish they had trophies on Switch,

not only you my friend! not only you. The only thing I miss from leaving sony is the platinum trophy. Sometimes I like a game and try to get platinum.
>>
>>376031956
>Luckily, they let us have 2 for this version.
I don't know how to interpret that. Can you use the vanilla board as well as the job board?
>>
>>376032392
You get two jobs per character.
>>
Why would anyone buy the subpar PS4 version when the definitive edition is coming out on steam?
>>
>>376032560
Oh. Well, that's kinda nice.
>>
>>376032610
This honestly. SE seems intent on bringing the entire franchise over to PC (though those SNES era ports are atrocious with those mobile version sprites). Hopefully it doesn't take ages but I'm also not exactly in a rush to replay it.

>>
>>376035351
An absolutely abhorrent job system (not the first appearance of it, it was also in a japanese only release of the PS2 version) that does nothing but limit the possibilities you had in vanilla. Some other stuff like a turbo mode and they made one of the rarer weapons easier to obtain. It's mostly stuff that was in the Japanese IZJS but we're getting for the first time outside of emulation. I think they're remastering the audio but I don't have a source on hand.
>>
>>376028996
Yes. I'm a sucker for anything involving Ivalice. Still have the steelbook from the original release.
>>
>>376035665
So the new job system is shit then? Does it make the game harder or easier?
>>

Or, here me out, you could exercise some discipline and create your own unique builds in Vanilla like a proper RPG. Instead you're stuck with the rigid structure you're given and no new licenses were added.
>>

>>
>>376036376

>>
>>376036862
>Did you know that Basch was meant to be the lead originally
>notthisshitagain.jpg
Meanwhile, Vaan was the first character to be designed of the main cast.
Really makes you think.
And on the purpose of Vaan, what was the story of FFXII about?
>>
>>376037113
What her deal anyways? She had the worst stat growth or something right?
>>
>>376037192
>And on the purpose of Vaan, what was the story of FFXII about?
Star Wars.
>>
>>376035665
The job system isn't THAT limiting, since it's not like you have endless viable options on the original board. Obviously there's some value in job templates since most people didn't think to give their party consideration or variety. Some of that is probably because you couldn't even see the licenses so you couldn't plan builds in the first place without a guide.
>>
>>376037206
Worst stats, besides VIT, period.
Vaan and Fran are usually left as the last when choosing jobs (not in-game, before someone thinks about being cure) because Vaan will pretty much always be the best at any given job due to his stats, and Fran is usually the worst in any job, with the exception of Breaker that scales well with VIT.
>>
>>376037282
FFXII had only superficial similarities with Star Wars.
The story is about Ashe getting over Rasler.
Vaan is paramount to that, though not because they have any romantic feelings toward each other.
>>
>>376037453
Did they change her stats for the remake?
>>
>>376036649
Vaan is shit and I say this as someone who likes XII. It's so obvious him and Penelo were added to the story at the last minute. Their accents don't even match the rest of the characters in the world.

>>
>>376038763
Most of the characters Vaan and Penelo meet are of a higher status than them, though.
Vaan and Pebelo are literally gutterfolk.
And no, Vaan most definitely wasn't added at the last minute, actually read up on the development of the game.

Fran has some cute moments of tender handholding with her husbando but overall she's one of the least significant characters.
You can stare at her ass non-stop though.
>>
>>376037303
>Some of that is probably because you couldn't even see the licenses so you couldn't plan builds in the first place without a guide.

I'm not. I couldn't care less how others play.
How you can seriously argue that modularity and freedom in an RPG is somehow worse than the contrary is pretty astounding.

It plays like an offline mmo, but honestly the quality of the world is so high and auto-attack scripting is so good you can breeze around smoothly.
The best things about FF12's gameplay is hunts against stronger monsters. But the best thing about FF12 in general is its story with some of the best VA work in the entire fucking industry.
>>
My wife. It's one of her favorite games.
>>
>>376032610
Because I want a physical copy
>>
>>376039965
It's basically the only actually strategic FF since you have to "program" the characters' behavior. That also means that it's the less active one since you musn't constatly brainlessly press x for every repetitive action and it took a while to get actually good since your initial option are too limited. Then it becomes glorious, if you don't mind the lack of brainlessly press x for every repetitive action, obviously.
>>
>>376040308
Alright, I guess I'll pick it up. A friend of mine actually just brought up the offline mmo stuff, but as long as it plays well, I don't particularly mind. I'll be honest, the aesthetic of things like the latest FF and such kinda turn me off. I like the more steampunk(If you can call it that) vibe this kind of game gives off, which is why I probably like the older games more. Thanks, friend.
>>
>>376028996

I just have one curiosity

Is the job system from the expansion mandatory or is it optional?

I'm kinda being bothered by the fact that i might have to force a job on each character when that wasn't present in the first version.
>>
>>376039734

>>
>>376040619
Mandatory.
>>
>>376028996
Drones will
>>
>>376039772
Is Minecraft more enjoyable on creative or survival?

Sometime restrictions actually do add to the fun
>>
>>376040451
The best compromise would have been a 100% active part with a character directly controlled by you through a completely different and more action-esque combat system, the rest of the party controlled with the gambits system.
>>
>>376040872
>Sometime restrictions actually do add to the fun
I can't contest that. My problem with the job system is that once you've tried them all, you're done with the game. You can't come up with interesting new classes or play styles, you've seen everything the game has to offer.
Not to mention there just isn't enough of them to restrict it you so hard. At least V for example had a ton of stuff to play around with.
Two jobs is a step in the right direction, but what would have been perfect, for me anyway, would have been the option to choose which system to use when you start a new game, kinda like in X.
>>
>>376028996
I really dislike the International Zodiac Job System.
Or at the very least I'd argue it's not suitable for this game.
>>
>>376041160
You do control the active character via a normal FF menu, rather than gambits.

Its just not hack-n-slash
>>
No, I played through it once to 100% and I'm not suffering that grind again
>>
Really excited for it. I already own it for the PS2 but I like the sound of the new features.
>>
>>376041257
Ya, theres no reason to not make the new job system optional.

Im just excited for it because it makes the entire party useful. In the original, there was no reason to use more than 3 (or was it 4?) characters since no matter what you want / need, you can just shove it onto whoever youre already using. There was never an incentive to switch
>>
>>376041345
>You do control the active character via a normal FF menu
Which is just the usual FF kind of system, gambits are much better than that. I was talking about a completely different and more action-esque system than the usual ones while still not hack-n-slash.
>>
>>376041345
Most of the people who played the game just put gambits on their leader too and actually let the game play itself.
Then they got angry that the game played itself.

Whatever you do, don't fall for the Balthier=White Mage meme. Give WM to Ashe or Penelo, especially since you can have two jobs on a character now.
>>
>>376028996
literally me m8, it's my fav FF next to FF8. If Squeenix wouldn't go the ultimate jew route with that 250€ super collector's edition, I'd get that. But I settled with the premium edition that's the game + soundtrack DLC
>>
>>376044482
So what is the new job system thing doing, does it just affect access to each character's available magics, and techniques?
>>
>>376028996
Yes since I never played it. Plus they fixed Vaans abs and added an additional job per character meaning I won't be screwed over once I inevitable regret my career choice just like in real life.
>>
>>376044482
>Balthier=White Mage meme
>reaches 99 str and 99 mag
>has innate Steal
>innate Guns 1, helpful in early game

>give WM to Ashe
>most of mag growth wasted
>Ashe has the highest combo multiplier of the characters, which is wasted on WM

White Mage Ashe is a waste of a character, White Mage Balthier is a great choice, though there are better choices for Balthier.

Dalmascan orphans don't speak the same as the Dalmascan princess/queen, her foreign general protector, the Archadean noble and his anthropomorphic beast-partner, how surprising they're a bit more vulgar and less refined. You can do precisely that by turning your controlled character's gambits to off as you directly control his choices in battle. Or maybe you're trying to say it should all be DMC action, different for each party member, while your on-screen partners continue on with their own gambits? Not really an RPG anymore and I can't say FF XV was super popular for it's version (11 years later).

I think one of the first trailers explicitly took several minutes or scenes detailing and giving examples that they are specifically remastering the voice clips, sound effects and all the sound library, though. That you don't hear the difference is very personal.

Game's absolutely fantastic, and a technical masterpiece as far as PS2 graphics go (just look at it, it's easily Vagrant Story tier for its gen) but the PS4 only bullshit is whack. It should've been released on Vita or Switch, something portable.

Also, Revenant Wings is a better game.

>best possible version because it is the IZJS.
The restricted board doesn't make it a better version for everyone. Personally, I find the lack of access to be nearly enough reason to simply replay the original and not play the new one (again).

The characters are extremely complicated and highly motivated. They are excellent individuals the game doesn't just slap an archetype/stereotype on and you instantly know everything about them.

>and the world isn't good at all.
The locations are gorgeous, the world is comfy, the music is spectacular, the desgin and detail is marvelous and the locations (despite being limited to what is essentially Dalmasca, a tiny bordered-up nation in the enormous continent in Ivalice) are varied and dramatic. You just didn't like it, but don't lie and call it something it isn't.

Not full hack and slash, but still pretty action-esque to compensate how passive the gambit system (which is still miles better than the usual FF systems in any case) can feel during the actual battles.

Not the same thing.

It wasn't completely static. Merchants merchandized, customers shopped, children played hopscotch, moogles flew, viera toured, monsters roamed, hunts popped up, ships flew by, scenery swayed in the breeze, weather shifted from calm to stormy...and it was all with high-budget assets over an 50+ hour long game with tons of data on a very limited space disc using a now very limited computer.

Balthier respected his father to the extreme until he felt he was going insane. He started to question is family, is loyalties and his expectations as one of the empire's most powerful noble houses and abandoned his post as a Judge in order to run away from his fears. The charismatic flyboy with extensive knowledge and genius command was scared and flippant.
>generic revenge
The future queen of Dalmasca and key puppet of the Occuria's plans is placed under enough pressure to turn ashes into diamonds after her brand new husband was killed days after their wedding by the very government now threatening to publicly invade her tiny nation using the guise of sincere diplomacy, all while she herself is brilliant, young and angry and a little out-of-touch with her people which is causing her to secretly steal more power for herself. Instead of righteous revenge, she's inciting cowardly rage and is blinded by everything around her that isn't "more power."

That's the overview of just two characters from dozens of hours of dialogue and story that details it, voicework that gives tone and subtlety and characterization, script that promotes feelings and discovery of them, how they perceive themselves, how others perceive them and lets them all contrast with how you personally mete with their decisions.

Will this include any of the sorts of enhancements doable with PCSX2? FF12 was one of the few games where that was truly amazing because they over res'd the textures so fucking much relative to the capabilities of the PS2. Game was way overbuilt, but as a result years later it upscales like magic. If PS4 version even mildly approaches this then fuck yes day 1 buy. If it doesn't I'll probably buy it once it goes on sale anyway though.

That's like complaining your job is boring when you are the owner, you pay other people to do your work and then you feel personally unsatisfied with the results, even if it's precisely to your specifications.

"Traveling to the other side of the country is so boring!"
"So don't ride the bus?"
"Don't be stupid, I'm flying! It's my personal jet."
"So it's gonna take, like, 4 hours?"
"So long..."
"You don't have any windows to look out of?"
"Pff, it's just sqaures of farm, who cares? Nothing interesting."
"No mountain ranges, lakes, cities? I guess traveling by car might be more fun since you'd be up close..."
"I'll just watch a couple movies and play a few hours on my gameboy while my food gets cooked on the plane's kitchen. I don't know why people think traveling is so great."

Acknowledging that a remaster can accomplish things beyond emulation is not anti-emulation you dumb faggot, it's fucking reality. They've got access to the original sources and high res unfiltered assets. They have the ability to actually for real include native enhanced textures and models and shit. WILL they actually bother? Who knows until it's out, there have been bad remasters, but there have also been great ones that completely demolished the original games in emu. FF12 is out of the era when translations were truly funky and horrible like we saw on the SNES/ps1, but there was still some room for improvement. High quality emulation also tends to take a pretty beefy PC even today, and while a lot of us have those there are probably some who'd appreciate being able to play it more efficiently on a console in their living room.

As that other anon said: why the fuck are you even in this thread if you don't even like the game? Just to shitpost at anyone on /v/ liking an RPG ever?

No I'm referring specifically to IX, in fact that's why it took forever for IX to ever be released on anything outside of PS1 or PS1 emulation on PS3. And a guy did in fact leave the company with IX's assets, because he just happened to be the guy they were handed to, assets weren't considered something valuable to keep back in the day.

As for VII and VIII, both of those had PC versions like a year after their PS1 versions. They weren't great, but they existed.

So let me get this straight here. They went from letting you have all the powers in the game if you max out the characters to only having specific jobs that limit what your character can do?
>>
>>376036191
Problem with that is the Technicks mostly sucked and most of the weapons had no notable differences to them. The game almost encourages you to just teach everyone magic and use everything accordingly.
>>
>>376057693
If you went to penumbra with the teleporting horses you could see that it was a glitch the most clearly. You could sit at a fully charged cast for over a minute if you gathered all of them into one spot. In order to make it so it wasn't too resource intensive for the PS2, they made it so the highest level spells, which were generally the ones with the biggest graphical effect, were placed in a queue, as in, the first thing, player or monster, to cast a highest tier spell got to use it, then the next and so on until the queue was exhausted. A decent idea until you get to certain bosses that you can literally just spell-lock or they can spell-lock you.
>>

>when are they gonna remake 9 and 6
>>
>>376058217
Correct, the game was way too easy and unbalanced before. You could run around 12-15 chaining with all of your characters. On the flipside, they removed damage limit of 9999, so certain spells can now hit upwards of 30K. It is a much more balanced system now, as long as you don't accidentally pick Breaker as one of your jobs, unless you enjoy having an endgame damage range of under 100 to 8000+, unreliable as fuck.
>>

There needed to be more story surrounding the actual frontline conflict going on. I get what XII was going for by having Ashe and Co. working "behind the scenes", but there really should've been more points where they became more active in the actual fighting.

The game's story is not about ongoing rebellion against the Empire.
The game is literally about Ashe, nothing else.

It seems like a lot of story and policts got cut when they kicked the director out.

Yes, this is my final chance to actually make it through the entire game.
If I can't do it this time I'm giving up.
>>
Gonna wait for the PC version, I just replayed it on PCSX2 so i'm in no rush.
>>
Will we be able to change jobs in this version?

>A decent idea until you get to certain bosses that you can literally just spell-lock or they can spell-lock you.

This is why I never attempted any of the higher up Espers or superbosses. Fuck that shit.

Considering that the idea behind Vaan and his prototype was to be a healing character in terms of helping people get over their problems, I think they stuck with it just fine considering what happens to Ashe at the end.

You guys understand that unlike FFX this isn't just the IZJS HD, there are at least a few game play improvements.

She can, but didn't.
The game is about Ashe's quest for vengeance against the Empire, not about her trying to reclaim her homeland by participating in the rebellion.

Me, I loved FFXII last good FF ever made. Much better than FFX and all the shit that came after 12.
