Because the game is advanced & won via sieges, and cavalry just isnt as useful in siege fights. Once you've moved past the "run around and kill bandits/crappy lords" stage, nord infantry + crossbowmen are the way to go

I advise, for your first time, staying around and conquering shit for whatever kingdom you ally until you get your first city which shouldn't be long. When you do, spend some time recruiting and upgrading way more soldiers than you think you need and stash them in the city before rebelling and creating your own kingdom. Being married by this point helps too.

Recruit lords with that trait that will make them automatically love you if you have high honor, even if they have never heard of you before. They will join and never ever conflict with you, that's what the high honor is for.

Repeat the process of conquering a castle, stashing it with soldiers, then awarding it to one of your lords, then back to recruiting and raising soldiers.

Before you know you will have a small kingdom with SOLID defenses because you made sure to garrison every single castle before giving it to a vassal, and you will also have strong vassals with good troops. From there you just play the game because while your lands won't be that vast just yet, they will be nearly impregnable.

The best game I ever had was entirely by circumstance not planning:

>Play standard merc route: tournaments, taking jobs, building up stats and reputation.
>End up working for on-the-back-foot Rhodoks getting hammered by a Sarranid invasion, just because I'm in town and there's a few smaller invading parties nearby I can take.

At this point the Rhodoks and Sarranids were so fucking fatigued and busy fighting other wars on other fronts I basically was able to sweep the Sarranid quarter with almost laughable resistance, so a year on I go from being good Rhodok friend to the fucking Hammerfoe, re-launching the same invasion they were facing when I joined them last year.

This had absolutely nothing to do with how I planned or strategized, it essentially fell into my lap, it is by far the best session I ever had in MB and to anyone else looking for that kind of game I can only say you should simply go with the flow, rather than try for a deliberate strategy. Some sessions have more potential for bullshit or fun than others, but you should always be willing to just see where it takes you, rather than giving up at the first hurdle.

It's 38days left. What will they show on E3?

Knights are good while unmounted as well you fucking jealous mountain jews. Only Huscarls can fuck with them but fortunately I have Huscarls with me as well since I conquered snowniggers. Conquered them with my knights no less.

Expanding on this: Never award yourself villages or castles, those are for your vassals. The least land you actually own the better due to tax inef. so make sure each one of them is rich. In other words, towns only.

Never recruit a lord that does NOT have that honor loving trait. It will just be an eternal pain in your ass.

Pretty obvious but prioritize troops that shine in sieges when you are garrisoning a nearly captured castle before giving it to a vassal.

Just because at some point your vassals will be very powerful, don't expect to not be playing mostly solo. Even though they will always have 100 relation to you, they won't always show up when summoned and sometimes will just take so long to do so, that the ones that did show up will just leave.

Helps to have multiple field battles before engaging in sieges. So make sure you have a field unit that you can trust so you can take it out, destroy them in the field, go back, pick up your siege units and then start conquering castles while the enemy faction is weakened.

The mod I've enjoyed the most was Perisno, but it's kind of a mishmash of everything and is low fantasy, without magic bullshit though. Gekokujo for your wapanese needs, Prophesy of Pendor is alright too, but all these mods require you already knowing how the game works otherwise you will get fucked quite early on. No more peaceful grinding on bandits in the countryside.
