>>
>>376016954
Honestly man, if you didnt like 2205 before. Try going back to it and look at it like this.

Having the game simplified so much allows it to be on a far, far grander scale. The previous games never come close, and you can't build anything anywhere near as grand. It's easy to beat the game, but the true end game comes from entering the stock market. It's so brutally difficult that the game creates a separate save for you automatically if you choose to do so. Because you'll immediately be pounced on. Other companies can commit a hostile takeover, tank your resources, sabotage you. And they have a LOT of money and resources to throw around. That's where a lot of the complexity comes from that was missing in the early game. Try and give it another shot? It's still not as good as 1404. But I think it's better than 2077.
>>
>>376016759
>tfw too stupid for economics

2077 is a pretty weak title. I enjoyed it for what it was, but yeah. I don't blame you. It has some comfy drop in co-op feature thats really well implemented. But other than that there's not much.

If you ever have some spare cash and want to get back in to the series 1404 would be the best place to start. You can get the gold edition for 8 bucks.

This. DF is easy, all it takes is learning the hotkeys. Casuals just look at the UI and go "ew no gfx" and quit too early.
>>
>>376020694

I guess I'm a casual because I look at the ui and go "What is this clusterfuck of a labor system" and then go back to using therapist like a baby.

Rimworld doesnt have a fraction of the depth of DF, but it's so much easier and intuitive that it makes up for it to me.

All Rimworld needs is more content.

DF needs a massive UI overhaul.

if you think DF's problem is the UI then you need to get help mate

it needs more optimization, badly. the main issue with the game is only being able to play a fort for so long until eventually losing to FPS death. unfortunately Toady keeps posting updates along the lines of "Ok i've spent the last 6 months calculating the toe nail growth of every species on Earth and programming it into the game" instead of making the game not run at 5fps after a few 5-10 years in-game time.
>>
>>376020340
You either plan things out so that each product gets its own production line like a limb. Iron and Copper will be your main artery and go down your base like a spine cause everything will draw on them like as a base ingredient.

Failing that, just throw your hands up in the air and embrace the Spaghetti and remake your base when necessary.

he doesn't want "magic" magic, as in casting spells n such. I've had too much Dwarven Beer but if I recall the magic he is gunna implement will be more subtle, like curses n such, as well as powers tied to artifacts (which I think is coming in the next update). There are already were-creatures, vampires, HFS, divine metals and such already in the game too.

If you want actual magic you could play Masterwork mod or Valkun's Dwarf Fortress Magic Add-On or something

>>376021017

I actually agree with both of you. Despite knowing the hotkeys and playing for years, I'm generally not motivated to plan and build a super fortress because I find that the level of micromanagement becomes tedious and boring. I like the existing content regarding management but I wish they added some macro management options so you don't have to deal with every goddamn dwarf. Basically add somemore content regarding the management system.

On the other hand, when I do reach endgame, the program becomes unstable. I wish they optimized and improved the existing program instead of adding more and more content.

It's irritating because I legitimately enjoy the game but can't get into for the reasons you are both saying.

Not any of the previous anons, but remember-- Losing is fun.

I'unno, it can be tedious for micromanaging but that's why you set managers to do infinite jobs for shit that you know you're gonna constantly need, or set up requirements. Anyone upset with the micromanaging hasn't figured out better ways to implement it. They didn't even have a good portion of shit 7 years ago like they do now

But I will agree with the FPS consumption.
>>
>>376019425
it's absolutely amazing seeing the organic growth of factories in factorio, the first factory you make in your first game may not be the most space efficient, but you reach a point after countless bottleneck fixes where the factory seems almost alive, constantly hungering for more resources to pump into it's infinitely complex interior.
after a few games it loses this trait as you work out modulation and crafting ratios to prevent bottle necking and use space more efficiently.
wish I could replay without any knowledge of the game.

You gotta quit games for months/years to acquire that.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with using Dorf Therapist. Whenever I play Dorfs I make sure I have a tileset installed along with DT. I'll agree that learning what everything does takes some time but you can't get close to DF's complexity with any other game. Rimworld is fun as fuck but you can't a lot of shit in it that you can do easily in Dorf Fort.
>>

that's depth right? I doubt it,
it would requite big engine changes
>>
>>376026057

But that's the entire point of DF. You build a fort with no end goal and set goals for yourself.

>the complexity is irrelevant to the gameplay

But it is. The reason you can do all the crazy shit you can in Dorf Fort is because the game has a lot of different mechanics for allowing those things to happen. Whether it's building a gigantic pyramid, a large zoo full of elves you captured, a moat filled with dragons to kill people who attack you, none of these would be possible if DF wasn't as complex as it is now. If you don't want to learn it, that's fine.

very little in the game does not have an impact on gameplay. Things like teeth are needed to bite, nails to scratch etc. It is clear you only have a basic overview of what the game actually does.
Hell, name me 1 other game where I can use my individually registered fingers to poke my enemies eyes out and blind him as a tactic in battle.

>wish I could replay without any knowledge of the game.
Somebody else already suggested that, but if you feel like Factorio is getting stale for you, you really have to play the game with Bob and/or Angel (the two in combination are probably the best option). It increases the complexity exponentially, and completely overhauls just about everything you were accustomed to do.

It CAN freak you out though, especially early on. Angel in particular adds entire mechanics that can really mess with you head in the first 15+ hours and it's just... a LOT to take in.
It does heavily change the dynamics of the game, and makes it a lot longer and more challenging. In fact, at the point where your regular vanilla playthough would be reaching late game, Angelo+Bob is basically the end of early game.

I still think it's worth it, if you have to patience the learn rather crazy amount of new stuff all over again.

Bob alone is less overwhelming.

I tried to get in to this game multiple times over the last 4 or so years, why is the UI and controls so shitty?

>>
>>376020091
>i want to get into it, but this picture freaks me out
That picture is staged. It makes no sense, it isn't a practical setup - just something the devs threw together to make it look cool.

It can get very intricate, but honestly, the best thing in factorio is how things come together organically. It rarely ever feels overwhelming when you are building your factory: it consists of smaller, fairly logical steps and optimizations. Only after you look back at it, you suddenly realize: "What the fuck? How and when did I build this insanity?"

Yeah, there's a balance between work and play. It's about picking your battles. You wouldn't get drunk before certain jobs, and I've worked certain jobs where everyone drinks on it. Mainly landscaping and construction but even then, that's how you end up with fucked up edging on your flowerbed and crooked cabinets.

Really, the only real "rush" is to get your drink and food supply running and you're set. You can fuck off and do what thou wilt from that point. And if anything gets "thrown" at you, you'll have enough remedial experience to think about how to get it done.

KoS would make no sense for anyone with a brain, in dayz players carry best stuff on them, in project zomboid it's probably hidden in fortified house. I really need to check multiplayer, trading items sound like fun.
