the story of ds1 (the story, not the lore) was good enough for a game and made for good setpieces but what was already full of holes and stretched thin was made worse when they tried to make 2 sequels out of it that took themselves even more seriously.


At first i thought ds3 was gonna be a soft reboot where the origin of the fire didnt matter and you had to kill the remaining lords of cinder, but NO. aldrich is in ANOR LONDO and ate GWYNDOLIN and you need to get SEIGWARDS armor from PATCHES so you two can team up and also the GREATWOLF GREATSWORD WATCHERS OF THE ABYSS are there too for like a minute and ALDIA told lothric the fire is for nerds and surprise this is all LORDRAN and you fight GWYN as the FIRST FLAME once you take all the big boss souls back to FIRELINK SHRINE where youll fine the blacksmith ANDRE and the level-up WOMAN IN BLACK.

that last bit wasnt about ds callbacks. more annoyance with how from rejects improvements made to their games because they make the waifu character less important.

Being immortal with the dark sign branded on your soul is fucking terrible because it turns you hollow, yes, but humans were clearly just fine before that, given that they could go out and solo fucking Archdragons. Humans in their natural form, without the dark sign brand, do not fucking hollow. Their existence is not a terrible one. Being immortal only became a problem after the hollowing started.
