Because they were dumbed down, but back then people didn't know how to develop and you couldn't patch shit. So you either got a broken ass game like X-men vs Street Fighter, or a pretty decent and fun game like MVC 1.

Damn, throwing shade on me like there's no tomorrow. MVC1 and 2 are objectively inferior to marvel 3. Its not about graphics or roster sizes, seeing as how mvc2 had a bigger roster than 3, but 3 is a better game due to more of those characters being viable.

In proportion to the roster the same amount of characters are viable in 3. Ironically online you'd see more character variation and people who were actually skilled. Yes you might get hit by some weird Guile or Thanos infinite, but it's no better than the sea of top tiers with random Deadpool and Taskmaster players you get in 3.

Stop echoing the word " objectively " just because you think it means your opinion is fact. In reality just like SF4 people hated 3 when it came out and only started warming up to it once Ultimate was introduced and fixed a ton of problems.

MVC2 was agreed to be better than MVC3, then UMVC3 brought it down to whichever you preferred itself. If you use your brain you don't have to hate everything base on if it's old or new.
