Just toggle it off in BIOS and uninstall the drivers.

Why would anyone buy amd in 2017?

The 580 was supposed to kill the Nvidia but is literally only 2 (TWO) percent faster than the 1060 across a range of 27 games all released within the last 2 years and the regular 480 is now slower than the 1060. The 1060 6gb is also £10 cheaper than the cheapest 580 and the £480 8gb is the same price but slower so you're either paying a tenner more for 2% better performance and 20% worse power consumption or paying the same for worse.

Let's not forget that amd still doesn't have a 1070 competitor. The 1070 is the best price/perf card right now.
>>
>>376007856

You can tell the driver to only use the dedicated card, AFAIK.

Just Wait™ For Vega© bro
By the time that releases it's going to be 13 months of Pascal being on the market.
Say it's 10% faster, that's still a failure in my eyes. Been enjoying my 1080 since last June.
>>
>>376008121
So set it to manual and select the dedicated card.
Power use will be higher when just idling though, which leads to lower battery life.
But you can always switch it back to automatic or just tell it to use the iGPU.
>>
>>376008087

4k is a gimmick at the moment dude.
Not enough stuff supports it yet to make it worthwhile at the price you pay.
You're better off getting a 2k.

>>
>card is listed as supported on new driver specs
>installing new driver bricks the card
this has been going on for a year now. fuck amd
>>
>>376008260
I beg to differ.
All that needs to be supported are games (and they are).
Performance is still a little wonky, but come Volta/Navi we are finally going to have enough power for smooth sailing at 4k, the 1080Ti can already do it most of the time on new AAA titles.
And I don't think the monitor prices are going to go down that much anymore.
So buying a 1440p screen now only to exchange it for 4k one in a year or two is kinda pointless IMO.
Monitor is something I usually buy for the next 4 or 5 years at least.

I really wish AMD would get their shit together and actually provide intel and nvidia with real competition.

I feel like both have really been putting out shit lately but since AMD is still so far behind they can keep getting away with it. Kaby lake was was just a slightly overclocked Sky lake and don't get my started on nvidia with it's Titan X (Maxwell) -> GTX 1080 -> Titan X (Pascal) -> GTX 1080ti -> Titan Xp bullshit, oh that $1200 card we just put out well this $700 card is better than it, oh hey and now that you all got that $700 card there is another $1200 card that's better than that one, suckers oh and we intentionally made the names confusing on purpose because we can.

Something is clearly fucked. It's not architecture because the 390 is in the right place relative to the 480 and it's not VRAM because the 3Gb 1060 is chugging along fine, as is the Fury X. Anyone know?
>>
>>376008270
You better hope so, because companies without competition are really fucking shitty companies.
Just ask intel.
>>
>>376009165
>Something is clearly fucked
Indeed. It's AMD.
>>
>>376008802
They can compete with Intel but not Nvidia. With the cpu all they need is a solid piece of hardware and because these processor architectures last such a long time they can keep evolving the platform. Also Intel is hitting a brick wall in general because of natural limitations of cpu manufacturing processes.

With Nvidia they can release the best ever gpu but the software support isn't there till late on. Every time amd finally gets their drivers to make their gpu run equivalently to Nvidia the new gen comes out and then it's square one again. It's impossible for them to win unless they have as much money as Nvidia to invest in software. Nvidia doesn't even have a hardware scheduler but their software team works wonders. Remember when the 480 was like 15% better in hitman dx12 compared to the 480? Well a new driver patch came out for dx12 on Nvidia gpu which has closed the gap to within 5% and that's without a hardware scheduler and full compute support. Nvidia will always win until amd can beat them in software and that's why I'll always buy Nvidia. They're just better at what matters at the end of the day and amd is always playing catch up. My 1070 still has no rival.

They really can't.
Ryzen is nice and all, but once again they are basing their competitivness on price.
Compare Ryzen core for core with Skylake/Kabylake and it's much slower.
All Intel really needs to do to get back into position of almost total dominance is increase core counts through their range, they already have the better CPU's and had since 2015.

Core for core it's pretty much bang-on Broadwell-E, it's only a few percent off current Intel offerings.

Plus, the 1700 flatout beats the 6900 while using less power to do it. It's pretty much killed off the top of Intel's consumer market, and IIRC their server chips are coming soon. Should be interesting.

4k is not a gimmick. There's a lot of detail at maximum settings that gets lost in even 1440p. I own both a 1440p monitor and a 4k tv. 4k, espectially at larger sizes, provides much more detail than you think. You either don't own a 4k pannel or haven't spent enough time with one.

That being said, for games I definitely prefer a higher framerate.

Not really, 27'' is kinda small that's true, but 32'' is pretty much the sweet spot.
It's a monitor, not a TV you sit 2 meters away from.

AMD is using Prey to market their new GPU that's releasing in June. Do you honestly believe it's going to remain a DX11 game?
>>
>>376013606
Yes
>>
>>376013606
Because I actually understand how api's and engines work, yes.
>>
PC hardware fanboys might be just as bad if not worse than the console war shitposters.
>>
>>376008121
This shit happens on Nvidia laptops too, retard. You absolutely have to do manual for 100% consistency on using the dedicated GPU. This is like the #1 known issue with gaming laptops.
>>
>>376013852
I have never seen an Intel or Nvidia fanboy though. I'm sure they exist but never seen one on here, even though the majority seem to use Nvidia.
>>
>>376014191
Majority use Nvidia because they have no choice and many of them are AMDfags ready to jump back to Red camp when Vega finally comes out

For 2160p you really want a 38-48" display.
Its worth it if you want to replace a multi-display setup with a single big screen.
Very worth it if you have a couch in the same room as your computer since it also lets it function for console gaming and movies.
>>
Dear imagination technologies, could you please get down from the pile of mobile GPU cash you're on, and make us an high end modern PowerVR card please?
>>
>>376014463
>Majority use Nvidia because they have no choice
Even if I'd have a choice I'd still have gone with nvidia after the shitshow I've had with AMD drivers on linux.
>>
>>376009242
also, they already released a HBM2 card a year ago.

Spoiler alert: it is not cheap
>>
>>376013740
Vulkan is very similar to the low level APIs used on modern consoles since they're all Mantle based.
DX11 is the odd API out now as its high level, and has a very non-standard workflow even compared to other high level graphics APIs.

>hardware never goes down in price
>even if production ramps up

Plus, realize with a pro card you're mostly paying for pro level tech support, the hardware is not most of that cost.

>Compare Ryzen core for core with Skylake/Kabylake and it's much slower

Dude what?. They are pretty even at gaming after like 5 or 6 performance updates
>>
>>376015231
They'll be even once more games support multicore as well as BF1 does.

>if you have the original Prey on steam you have to change the exe name or else it will conflict with the new isntall
>the new game runs on an outdated bloated piece of shit that manages to be worse than its previous iteration
>instead of a proven engine that not only looks great but runs well on the shittiest hardware, AND is made by one of Bethesda's subsidiaries, saving money on licensing
Bethesda just can't escape their legacy of incompetence can they?

I still suspect Intel allows AMD to exist for the sake of avoiding anti-monopoly action.
>>
>>376016284
That's pretty much a given.
Otherwise they would have bought AMD by now.

>The 580 was supposed to kill the Nvidia
How? Its literally a 480 with a higher factory clock.
>>
>>376009379
for the 4th time in four years. how can this keep happening.
>>
>>376016284
If Intel actually felt threatened by AMD they could just half the price of x99, eat the loss with virtually no impact on their profits, and laugh as AMD burns.
>>
>>376016284
nah, its a mutual feeding each other

AMD has the license to x64
Intel has the license to x86

>>

You need a 1080 to hit 120fps ish at 2k and a ti to hit 4k 80ish
It's not worth the 1k usd or whatever those cards sit at right now, plus the price of the monitor tbqh
Theres also a flood of shitty ports locked to 60fps as well and we all know higher fps > higher res
>>
>>376016284
Even still Intel were at the mercy of anti-trust probes.
They only managed to escape action against them by convincing us that ARM and Samsung were a threat to them in their mobile holdings market.

They are not as free as you think.
