But surely Steam would do at least SOME sanity checking on directory paths - if this can happen, what's to stop game company X deliberately sabotaging game company Y's games over steams, but just putting some malformed files into another games folder (since that's apparently A-OK)

This happens because the installdir property in steam doesn't have to be unique even though it probably should be when everythings in the sames.

In the last thread I was in, someone who I suspect was Pete Hines showed up and called me 'stupid' for saying there's no way that prey 2 was cancelled because the 'devs were incompetent' because Bethesda is like the pinnacle of incompetence in the gaming industry.
