Melee suits are fine. They're not really to my taste, but the game would be more boring without a couple of them.
Plus they're not hard to hold off (except for Avalanche Exia who can come for your booty at half a second's notice with his fucking dash) once you learn anti-chimp strats/work with your partner and don't let them bait you into step-wars.

1 support is still too many for me if every suit has it. Playing full boost was miserable as Quanta would funnel you and summon 2 suits all at once. It stopped being fun when it wasn't 1 on 1, but having to constantly dodge attacks from multiple angles. SEED VS was the high point of that series and it's gone down hill massively since.

You can have a support based suit, like say Sandrock summoning Heavy arms or a Maganac. One or two of them is okay for design purposes. The problem is every suit does it so it's no longer a suit's gimmick but a main feature. The problem with samey suits is that most Gundams have 1 gimmick on top of the standard load out. Red frame has a katana. Nu has funnels. The Hidolfr is completely different and the SEED VS had more different style suits as it had a larger pull of MS types to pull from and wasn't tied to the lead suits.
