There are a lot of shitty threads going on on this board in the last couple weeks(years)
Lets have a straight up favorite games thread, and give reasons why.
Can't stop the trolls, let's just ignore them and have a friendly thread. (I don't think that's possible on /v/ though)
Mine is Skies of Arcadia. I love the pirates theme, I love the sky in general, so the two intertwined immediately had me hooked as a kid. The story was good, the world play was phenomenal, I liked the characters, and how they came and went as the story progressed. The only bad things I have to say about it are that the ending was convoluted, and the encounter rate is WAY to fucking high.
Lets bring something good to this board for once you /v/irgins, aren't you tired of all the console war bullshit and the constant threads that belong on /vg/.
I know I fucking am.
I'm going to keep posting, this board needs this thread, I'm all for not talking about vidya, but these days it's just retarded.
I know the majority of you fucktards love this series, as do I. It's cliche as all hell, simple, and to the point, fun.
It brings no politics into it like most other modern trash does.
It does what it says it does, and its fucking really fun, it's a throwback to the genesis/SNES era, where games were just meant to be fun and did not need a purpose.
It is deeply flawed, but it has no reason not to be that way.
My favorite game is the original Donkey Kong Country. The combination of it being a very pretty game and great music creates a really relaxing atmosphere and I find the challenge to be the perfect amount without being overbearing. Completing each stage feels very rewarding because of the difficulty and because you genuinely want to see what the next level and its music are like. It's better than Donkey Kong Country 2 because Dixie Kong breaks the game, making it extremely easy. Using Dixie you can bypass most of the platforming which renders the game pointless.

Is this fine to run on dolphin? looking for something after finishing xenoblade
Also my favorite game was tribes 2, but the online is dead now. Nothing quite gave me the freedom of movement and the nice sensation of ramming HO to death with my shrike while a script would autotaunt for me.
I'll keep posting till other anons do, I know all the old one's will appreciate.
This game, THIS FUCKING GAME.
I first played this game at my best friends house, and subsequently used every opportunity to go over to his house to play this again, and again, and again!
My family finally obtained a computer able to play this online, and that's all I did from 4th to 6th grade. So well crafted for it's time, the community was great because it was before any shit head could get on an online game, awesome vehicles, awesome levels!
No one really played the expansions all that much but I really enjoyed them too. #1 at eagle tower always on allies.
If Dice could get EA's dick out of their mouth, and remake/remaster this game, then they would'nt even need those sjw fucktards.
>>375990580
DKC will always be in my heart anon, second game I was given for SNES after Super Mario World.
I liked Donkey More, but kirby super star the most
>>375990729
Anon I have no idea, I only ever played it on the actual hardware, i can't imagine why it would'nt run decently, it's a port of a dream cast game.
Look up some forums for it, i guarantee you there are some mods to decrease the encounter rate, but the obserdity of them makes sense for the extra bosses they add in legends. An extra boss i fought 2/3 the way through was 5000000X harder than the end boss.
If you think the idea of sky pirates is cool, and like early 2000's JRPG'S, try it out.
Eternal Darkness and Tales of Symphonia were my main jam back in the GameCube days. Both are games I played endlessly, over and over. ED's story and environments were straightforward but intriguing, and those sanity effects were a hoot.
Symphonia, I just loved. I was compelled to do damn near everything, and each playthrough I discovered a little more. It was like magic.
>>375989531
I need to actually beat that game. Why we never got more like it always bewilders me.
As for favorite games, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath are things I miss in the current gen.
My favorite game is Dark Souls
It is perfectly, flawlessly paced. It is sheer luck it is as good as it is.
i fucking love skies of arcadia
God you guys are so obsessed with all the garbage threads, fine, I'll hit you guys with one, that if you really belong here, you'll get
I'm not to particular to shooting games, atleast anymore. They were made a magical mystery to growing up, and when I was finally allowed to play them, they were all I wanted to play. If you have any brain now though, all the new ones suck.
But these, THESE, the whole series deserves to be played by every single millennial dumbass who's favorite game is fallass 4, whoops I meant out.
Just play them, do you like shooting, do you like mutants, do you like ukranians, do you like vodka, do you like realistic difficulty, do you like me?
I don't like you, but you better atleast play shadow of chernobyl, and call of pripryat, i liked blue sky but the ending was shit.
get your slav on anon
>>375991846
I have eternal darkness but have never played it, should I?
>>375991953
Have you tried the torchlight games, they're cartoony, but they are similar.
>>375992002
I too love Dark Souls my friend, but it is far from perfect.
>>375992451
Yeah, but there's something different playing on a PC as opposed to sitting on your couch with a controller. It just doesn't feel the same.
>>375989531
The Fire Emblem series are my favorite games. I've been a fan of JRPGs forever but I never really got into SRPGs aside from the gba FE games and Disgaea. I'm playing through FE:Path of Radience for the first time now and it's phenomenal. Easily the most Ive enjoyed a game in a while, despite the dated graphics and kind of slow gameplay.
Disgaea 5 was also fun. I'm either going to do another play through of that or go right into Radiant Dawn to hold me over until Echoes releases
I'll post a few games. I'll be going with more obscure games/ones I'm interested in right now though.
First up is Evolution Worlds. I got it when one of my cousins gave away a few of his Gamecube games and it was probably one of my first RPGs (alongside Pokemon Yellow, but I digress). Because I was a dumb child, it was just a sort of thing until I was old enough to appreciate text and plot in video games. Then, I found out that the version I had been playing was actually a port of two Dreamcast games, with the first game heavily cut, so I've been trying to recertify that with a playthrough on an emulator. The game/s themselves weren't really stand out, but it had a sort of charm to its world and characters and had a few neat ideas (the Teaching Point System, the Cyframe parts, etc). It feels like the sort of game that would be neat to have an OVA or manga adaptation of.
>>375993257
Next up is Sonic CD, my personal favorite of the original 2D games. You could probably guess from my last post that I'm a Gamecube kid, and you'd be right. One of my cousins had Sonic Mega Collection growing up, I eventually got Sonic CD. Sonic CD isn't perfect, particularly with its weird bosses, but it's unique design style, time-travel elements, low-key great special stages, introduction of Metal Sonic and music make it rank high in my list of personal favorite Sonic games. And while I like both soundtracks, and the Japanese soundtrack may be objectively superior, I prefer the US version in most instances. You can't tell me tracks like Quartz Quadrant and Tidal Tempest aren't good.
As a series it'd have to be Beatmania IIDX. Not much you can say about that really, they're rhythm games with loads of content, great music, and a great input method. I especially love how they make each note you play an actual sound effect, so how good your timing is directly impacts how good it'll sound, as opposed to say Guitar Hero where when you miss a note the entire track just shuts off entirely until you hit the next note. Shame Konami are dicks and are intent on telling everyone that isn't a Japanese arcade regular to fuck off.
As a single game, it'd be Star Ocean 2. The combat was pretty revolutionary for an RPG at the time, and is still perfectly serviceable today. The skill system is incredible and no other game in the series matches it, along with the amazing item creation system that lets you make some cool stuff if you don't know what you're doing and lets you totally break the game if you do. The story and characters are both great, it's easily Motoi Sakuraba's best soundtrack, and it has a boatload of bonus endgame content along with an incredible amount of optional character scenes in general, optional characters (everyone but the main 2 is entirely optional), and dozens of character endings based on affection points influenced by the character events throughout the game.
Unfortunately liking it as much as I do makes me hate the PSP remake all the more for how much it fucked up.
>>375992349
It might feel kind of rough today, but I'd say it's worth try a few chapters at least.
>>375993615
For my final pick, I'll go with Kirby & The Amazing mirror, my first (proper) Kirby game. Amazing Mirror is different in that it's more open and about finding different pathways through the worlds to reach the boss. Again, the game has flaws, but it was still fun exploring the levels and it had several fun abilities like Missile, Cupid and especially Smash and Master (two of the few versatile copy abilities in the game ).
>>375989531
I'll have to go with dragon's dogma. I'm not sure what it was that did it for me (besides the great combat mechanics). It made me feel like a kid again, the adventure aspect of it was fantastic, and I even kept notes about enemy weaknesses that I couldn't remember (and that the shit pawns wouldn't constantly blurt out). God damn that was a fun game, it was a shame how many items they gave you at the endgame that basically made you immortal though.
>>375994170
But being immortal meant you could fearlessly retread your whole adventure, except this time you'd be slaying super-powered recolours and dragons appearing everywhere.
DD was the kind of fantasy adventure I didn't want to end. Except when it came to Bitterblack. That didn't jive with me so well.
>>375989531
OP I'm sorry your thread went nowhere. Perhaps one day we'll both discover the secret to having a successful /v/ thread.
Okami
I wish more games were this big. Well besides rpgs but they're mostly grind so that doesn't count.
>>375990580
I second this
>>375994615
If you want to have an in depth discussion thread you probably shouldn't be having it at 1 in the morning.
>>375990729
>>375991486
Absolutely. In fact, it's even better. You can do wide screen, and you can remove that effect where textures lower in quality as they are further out, making the game surprisingly beautiful. Ill dump some screens.
This might be a duplicate we'll see if that fucked up or not.
>>375994615
If you want a thread to be successful you have to post a bait image and provocative meme text in the OP, because those are the only things people look at now. The catalogue was a mistake.
>Skies of Arcadia Legends
>Tales of Symphonia
>Fire Emblem : Path of Radiance
I'm noticing a very good taste in this thread, my personal favorite is Baten Kaitos, it has everything (and the combat system is great and original for a JRPG).
Portal 2 has to be my favorite.
The story combined with great puzzles, aesthetics, and music is everything I want from a game.
>>375989531
This emulate well? I've always wanted to play it, but haven't had a Gamecube in years and my Dreamcast is somewhere at my parents's house a couple thousand miles away.
>>375997589
All of the screenshots I've posted in this thread are dolphin screenshots. Most are mine, where I had no mods besides Dolphin's built in widescreen, I dont think any I got from elsewhere are modded either. I've had some sound issues sometimes but I think that is just due to settings. Maybe one or two crashes besides sound related crashes but for the most part pretty damn stable too.
>>375997705
>All of the screenshots I've posted in this thread are dolphin screenshots
Looks like I know what I'm going to after I finish TitS the 3rd!
>>375992752
Path of Radiance is my favorite game. Ike is my personal favorite video game protagonist. I've mostly enjoyed the news games, even though there are things that I have complaints with. The fanbase, if you could even call them that anymore, is so fucking terrible it hurts.
>>375998385
Do I fuck one of them in the games??
>>375993257
Ithink this got a U.S. release on PS2
>>375993619

Second favorite Kirby after Super Star, and I ate drank and shat Super Star as a kid.

>>375996106
This threads been up for hours before then.
>>375991846
Tales of Symphonia was great, probably the only RPG I legitimately enjoyed replaying. Story was great and felt pretty deep as a 14 year old playing it. There were so many small nooks and crannys and small stories to find that you could totally miss when playing. Fucking brilliant game.
>>375996890
OP here, found Baten Kaitos for cheap
have not played it yet (i have to many games and i just got flash carts)
convince me why I should play this first
My favorite game is Resident Evil 4. When it came out it was just utter perfection, I've never played a single player game that brought me back again and again for playthroughs like Resi4.
Somehow it still holds up today, no idea how. But fuck that game is just brilliant.
>>376001479
For me it is the pinnacle of JRPG, it has a very mature and interesting story that will blow your mind, great characters, god-tier music (from Motoi Sakuraba's golden era), an original and yet classical turn-based combat system and the graphics are still very pretty, if you like JRPGs you will love Baten Kaitos it is simply perfect, I'm so glad I played it when I was young
everyone who sees this thread

That looks really damn good. Last time I played the game was ages ago in 60Hz on my GC.
Even though SoA had a couple of things cut, like buying and selling pirate ships and a few scenes/battles, it's extremely well-executed. Unquestionably one of my favourite JRPGs of all time.
I remember First 4 Figures did a Vyse statue a while back and it was sexy as fuck. I only wish they'd have made one of the Delphinus.

I need a heart boner, anon! I have a sad panda that hooks me up with the other one!
My favorite game is Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. It has a *good* female protag, a great cast, tough jrpg battles and excellent writing.
>>376004571
Well then get ready for a ride on the hype, boner and feels train. Seriously, this game's got it all.
