>>
>>375988821
Obviously House Hlaalu, Thieves Guild, and possibly the legion, if only because you gain access to the evidence chests at a high enough rank so you can recover from arrests easier. The religious sort might join the Cult. The Fighters Guild and/or Mages Guild also make sense depending on how well-versed in combat or magic you are. The Twin Lamps is also right up your alley, as it's in the unique position of being subversive to the law while also aligning with Imperial interests. You don't technically join them but their quests open up when you free enough slaves.

The Morag Tong is a stretch, it's probably the least imperial faction to join aside from the other two great houses. Even the Tribunal Temple makes more sense since the official stance of the Imperial Cult is tolerance and their scholars are not averse to joining it in the name of research, but becoming an assassin to carry out house war contracts only makes sense for the most pragmatic of motivations: purely for the ability to legally kill marked people and take their stuff.

Looking alright, friend. Your restoration is pretty low for a "Paladin" so you might want to find a spellmaker to get some cheaper spells you can reliably cast. Perhaps a small restore fatigue spell so you can run everywhere in your heavy armor without worrying too much. Otherwise Restoration will continue to lag behind the rest due to lack of use, creating a vicious circle.

>There is not a single valid criticism of Morrowind in this thread.

The game has action rpg combat despite still using dice-rolls. So, any player will intrinsically believe that when their weapon connects with the target it should do some damage, only it doesn't because of arbitrary shit that even when they're prepped for it still happens.

Because block isn't active, it becomes a boring passive skill and thus the combat becomes entirely about offense.

Despite being entirely about offense, the different angles that you swing at actually have no other purpose that being pointless. The game even has an option to just always use the best attack anyways.

Thus combat is pretty floaty and all around unsatisfying. It lacks the puzzle-solving element of a good turn-based rpg. It lacks the kinetic action of a good arpg.

That's just one. But Morrowind fags will never do anything more than dismiss it or say it doesn't matter. It's like a prerequisite that you have to be that delusion to be a Morrowind fag. You can't just admit it's a genuine flaw of the game that will just get worst as time goes by.

>>

Dice rolls for combat is great because it means the main character actually has a role and isn't some Marry Sue character who can use any weapon at any time with zero training.
>>
>>375988853
It's not even a mod. They do it with the expansions.
>>
>>375991762
>>375991706
Vivec is Todd. Nerevar is MK.
Also honestly if anyone felt bad afterwards, it was Sotha Sil. Fairly certain Silly boy was interested in the heart for scientific purposes, like the Dwemer were. Vivec is the anticipation of the edgiest of the tribunal, two-faced and deceptive in every way, shape and form and I don't doubt that he romanticized the powers they gained to Almalexia (and boned her multiple times) to remove her sense of remorse.
>>
>>375991882
Every game in the world could be made better by mods if they had construction sets as in-depth as TES games. Most games out there just release level editors or some shit if anything at all, while TES ships with the tool the devs used to create the entire game.

Daggerfall in many ways is in the most need of "mods", namely unofficial fixes to the many broken quests. But with the latest official patch at least it's playable, and when combined with all the unofficial patches it's great. Vanilla Morrowind with the latest official patches, expansions, and DLC is great as well, and can be further improved with stuff like the code patch and MPP.
>>
>>375992171
On the contrary, Morrowind would make for a shit novel. I guess it might make for a decent TV series or movie that focuses on environments and atmosphere, but that's a big stretch. Morrowind is great only as a video game. The freedom and interactivity is superb, and it shines most when the player is directing their own journey. It wouldn't translate to any other medium. That honestly applies to all Bethesda games to some extent: the games are almost nothing but pure gameplay for better and for worse. Fallout 4's slight drift towards a more cinematic approach was met with criticism from even their mainstream fans, so it seems that their audience knows what they want as well.

dwemer weren't really interested in the heart scientifically, they were interested in it apotheosisically. >>
>>375992983
Eh. Guess I need to do me a little more reading.

I think it's because you can actually role play your character and the dialogue and lore was well written. There were so many options in regard to skills, weapons, and magic and factions you could almost do anything. And you could kill whoever you wanted pretty much whenever you wanted for more authenticity.

It's not something you need to concern yourself with. In every TES game after Arena your class is merely a suggestion. You can still max out non-class skills and get them even higher than your class skills. Hell, in Oblivion doing exactly that was basically the key to not getting literally weaker as you level up. The only permanent effects of classes are Advantages/Disadvantages in Daggerfall and Birthsigns in Morrowind and Oblivion.

>>*miss* *miss *miss*

>>
Using the exploit to break the game is really fun.
Forcing yourself to use 0 exploit is even more fun.
Strictly roleplaying by restricting certain weapons is a shitton fun.

I recommend a "bow and potion only" run, no magic, no melee, no stealth.
Raising other skills through the trainer for levelling is allowed.
>>
>>375996363
Yes, depending on where you're hit (which is actually chosen randomly, there is no actual body part hit detection) you get a skill raise for the armor type you're wearing there.
So if you want to only raise heavy armor then you should only wear heavy armor.
>>
>>375996363
Each time you are attacked, one of your armor slots is randomly selected. If there's equipment there it will take damage and you will gain experience in the relevant skill. If there's no equipment there you will gain Unarmored.

I'm not 100% sure on this but I think even if you're fully armored but without a shield it will count towards your unarmored skill if it picks the shield slot.

Wearing clothes over or under armor has no effect on this. Also note that the slot it picks is ONLY used for durability and skill experience. Your actual damage reduction is still based on your total armor value.
>>
how viable is stealth in this game? can i assassinate people with a dagger or bow?
>>
>>375996739
Overpowered as fuck like always in TES games.
>>
>>375996565
>I'm not 100% sure on this but I think even if you're fully armored but without a shield it will count towards your unarmored skill if it picks the shield slot.
It's like that in vanilla game but can be fixed with MCP.
>>
>>375996806
At what level does Sneak become usable? At 15 I can't even train it myself because it never works. I should pay a trainer to level it up but up to what level?
>>
>>375996739
Stealth is extremely useful when it comes to hiding, stealing, and pickpocketing, but it's one of those skills that is almost impossible to raise unless you already have a boost from training or picking it as a major. Trying to sneak around at skill level 5 will almost always fail and very rarely give you any experience as a result. Once it's in the midrange it's one of the fastest leveling skills by far, however.

When it comes to actual combat and stealth attacks, there's two aspects to it. First of all, if you are not detected when you perform any attack, the target's evasion is ignored. In this manner, stealth attacks with both melee and ranged weaponry have a higher chance to hit when sneaking. You can still miss from other factors like low weapon skill, of course. As for bonus damage, Sneak Attacks do exist in Morrowind but they are much stronger for melee attacks, quadrupling your damage. You only get a 50% damage boost for ranged sneak attacks. These multipliers are not increased by skill or anything else, so it's actually better to sneak attack with your slowest heaviest and most damaging weapon than it is with a dagger. The main reason a thief would prefer a short blade is because they're so much lighter than other weapons, making moving around a lot easier for their typically low strength.

Finally, one trick is to enchant your weapon with a cast-on-strike calm or command effect and keep sneaking throughout the battle, allowing you to get an extra sneak attack or two when they disengage from combat.

>>375997231
High 30s is when it starts to become reasonable to use frequently. It's a common misconception that you need to be moving for sneak to level up, but any time spent sneaking undetected within range of a creature or NPC while undetected will add to your skill. If you want to save money on training you might find some success practicing it on passive but slow/stationary creatures like scribs and kwama queens.
>>
>>375997231
It becomes noticeably useful at 35-40 sneak and 50 agility. Low/high agility compensates for low/high sneak skill.
You can grind for it by installing MCP so you can toggle it on and putting yourself on automove just outside some static NPC's line of sight, no matter if you're "sneaking" against a wall and not actually moving, it will still rise reliably.
>>
>>375997525
>It's a common misconception that you need to be moving for sneak to level up, but any time spent sneaking undetected within range of a creature or NPC while undetected will add to your skill.

Daggerfall is hard to compare to the newer games because of how much they moved forward.

>>375997525
>The main reason a thief would prefer a short blade is because they're so much lighter than other weapons, making moving around a lot easier for their typically low strength.
That and the fact that they attack so fast compared to other weapons. Since the majority of attacks cause hitstun/stagger effects, faster-attacking weapons are better from a defensive standpoint to make enemy attacks less frequent due to their higher time spent flinching. Definitely something a thief with their low armor and health compared to combat classes would appreciate.

>I can't remember vanilla XBox's journal, but GotY's was fine.
Xbox's GotY edition didn't include the quest tracker that the PC got with Tribunal, unfortunately. It got most of the other benefits like the health bars, at least. But you still had to flip through dozens or hundreds of pages to read earlier journal entries, which are all 100% chronological.
>>
>>376003728
>which are all 100% chronological.
So what the hell's the problem? People who can't into reading are why we got goddamn quest markers and shit.

Fuck, I mad.
>>
>>376003826
It's fine if you do one quest at a time. If you don't remember WHEN you started a quest then it's a fucking nightmare. And if you're doing multiple quests at a time the entries are all between each other, which is great if you want to read a log of your adventure but garbage if you want to keep track of what the fuck is happening in any given quest. The PC's quest filters fixed all of that effortlessly.

>Then you can bookmark it however your stupid ass wants
In total fairness, I guess that's what the PC ""fix"" did. I can kind of understand, I guess. People do use sticky notes and bookmarks and shit.

I'm 99% sure GotY xbox Morrowind had a wikipedia-style search function, though. It seems so familiar.
>>
>>375996739
>>375997231
Nobody else mentioned it so I'll just add that an NPC's stealth skill and agility is used in their favor for detection chance. In other words, it's much harder to sneak or pickpocket a thief than a warrior. This is how it goes for most of Morrowind's skill checks, including persuasion: NPCs with high speechcraft are also more resistant to persuasion attempts, which the game doesn't communicate clearly. You can get an estimate of these values by asking for their "background" and "my trade" to learn about their class and if it involves speech or stealth.

>>376004046
I'm just saying that the PC version has an awesome journal and the Xbox port doesn't. You can supplement that with your own logging, which is great, but if you just want to use the tools of the game to keep track of your adventure then you're at a major disadvantage on console.

Another great PC-only feature is map notes. Effectively letting you "write your own journal" in the game by leaving permanent notes all over the local maps to keep track of item and NPC locations or what you were doing last in a given spot.
>>
>>376004259
>Effectively letting you "write your own journal" in the game by leaving permanent notes all over the local maps to keep track of item and NPC locations or what you were doing last in a given spot.
I did that shit with a spare real map that game with the game.

Fuck mustards, that was some real fucking immersion. Shit's fucking dead now.

>I'm 99% sure GotY xbox Morrowind had a wikipedia-style search function, though. It seems so familiar.
You might be thinking of the topic browser, which both the Xbox and PC had since day one. This is a totally separate function from the quest updates you read on the journal, but in many ways even more useful since it includes every single line of dialogue ever. The directions you get from NPCs are usually abbreviated in the journal updates, so going back to the topic that started or advanced the quest is even better.

>>376004351
That's great. I just put the map on my wall but it's certainly detailed enough to use for actual navigation and note-taking. But the simple fact is that the PC versions have these quality-of-life features to increase immersion: letting you actually use the in-game journal and map as intended instead of taking your eyes off the game and creating your own tools. But the latter has its own fun. I did a similar thing for the original Legend of Zelda, making a grid of the whole map to keep track of which areas I've explored/torched/used the flute in. It's a valid way to play but the fact is that Morrowind's vanilla journal was near-universally criticized and the Tribunal fixes (which never made it to Xbox) were a seen as a major improvement.

As far as I'm concerned these kinds of things are in the "if you don't want to use them, then don't" category along with quest markers and fast travel. If it help casuals get into a great game they otherwise would have dropped then it's an objectively good thing. What really pisses me off is what Bethesda did in Oblivion and Skyrim, and actually REPLACE the detailed journals with quest markers and REPLACE Morrowind's myriad ways to get around the map with universal fast travel. The problem isn't the added convenience, it's the removed features.
>>
>>376004793
>along with quest markers and fast travel.
No, wrong.

Because if quest markers, they completely abandoned descriptive notation of locations.
