I could write up a very lengthy post on exactly what needs to be done to make a great MMO but it won't matter because everyone is burnt out on them.

You're not competing with WoW, you're competing with Chat rooms. WoW's chat room is far superior and no one is going to try a new one until it does something truly idiotic.

tl;dr WoW is basically Facebook. MMOs are fucked.

Before the rise of kikestarter here's what happened when you wanted to make an mmo
>beg for money to investors and/or editor
>present project and maybe a prototype
>they refuse to give you dosh if you don't make it more like wow because that's what is working
They all tried to play it safely but now it's changing, they can take a risk because players are paying for it.

Even if they were "fixed" I wouldn't want to play mmos, shrugs

That's when you get games like albion online.
They exist but can't be equal to wow as less money means less funding.

I think eve online is the only one which remains oldschool and still does well but due to being sci-fi space it can't attract the fantasy people.

Contrary to your social interaction goal. If you want people to interact remove instancing and create vast dungeons with different section so people can meet in the dungeon and group up to venture in the hard sections spontanous. What's the point of a mmo if you just run severed off instances with your friends? Might as well play destiny/diablo at that point.
