Other things they did was add in a freecam option(that sucks compared to the other freecam methods), uncap the frame rate lock, and increased the resolution of bloom(slight improvement).

You need to tweak it to account for the fog, that's how basically all AOs are tweaked for. The Reshade settings allow you to tweak for it.

Even Zelda BotW's heavy as hell fogs have AO designed for it. Fallout 4 have heavy ass fog, especially in some environment and yet they have both SSAO and HBAO+.
