The game was good and still playable, but you're right. Also, the DLC are expensive horseshit that almost add nothing to the game. To be honest, i did good torrenting it.
>>
>>375968937
It's absurdly hard to deal with traffic. They don't provide the proper tools or UI to really get a good grasp of what's happening or how to fix it. It's very frustrating.

why does this game drop my frames to sub 20 when my park gets larger? I realize that simulating more people is more taxing on hardware, but still, I wan´t to play a game here and don´t want to watch a slide show.
>>
>>375970315
They still haven't fixed the traffic? Jesus, I stopped playing about a month after release because of how fucked that was, I thought for sure they'd have come up with a way to deal with the retard traffic by now.

traffic manager presidential edition helps fix some of the problems, but it's not a complete fix, and really does give a huge fps hit

the devs won't fix it because the game is already bogged down to shit and the traffic ai is not broken to them, they won't admit it, if they tried to fix it they would probably just make it worse.

They seriously are the most infuriating fucks ever. They milked this game for everything and keep releasing the most pointless retarded DLC they can think of.

>>375970467

Because the unity engine is shit and the devs don't mind that the game is unoptimized as shit, their excuse is that it needs to be playable on low spec computers, so there is no point in making it scalable on high end PC's

it wasn't even that bad when it was first released, but after all the DLC's they have piled into the code the game just universally runs like crap once you get past a certain point. doesn't matter how good your hardware is.

>>375969828

you did do good, I wish I had torrented it instead
>>

I enjoyed it
>>

>>375970467

My bad I thought you were talking about C:S

Yeah I had the same problem, I played it for an hour and refunded it. Game had so much potential but was just too poorly optimized.
>>
>>375970516
There isn't really a way to undo the terrible mistake of having agent-based traffic. They're trying to solve what's basically a global optimization problem "by parts," which is either absurdly time-consuming, or produces arbitrarily bad results.

Oh, it's pretty awful.
>two lane highway with an offramp
>off ramp is getting kind of full, decide to make it multiple lanes and I make sure the roads it leads to are all multiple lanes too so no one has to merge
>no one ever gets in the other lane, it sits unused while traffic backs up for miles
>decide to make the offramp longer, and make the highway 4 lanes so people could go around
>3 lanes sit completely unused, even by the people not taking the exit
>absolutely no way to fix the offramp, nothing works as near as I can tell
>even throwing roundabouts into the mix didn't help
If real traffic worked liked cities skylines all real world cities would be jammed up for years. Hell, even small towns.

>>375968937
worst thing is that instead of fixing the game they put their ressources into making the Xbox version who nobody asked for.

it's made by cities in motion devs i think, so why did they mess up the traffic simulation? seems like a bit of a problem. maybe it will be fixed in cities skylines 2.

i think subnautica is fine for what it is. out of all the survival games like the long dark and the forest etc. i think it's the most polished and the most interesting of the bunch.

I hate to say it. I've met toady and he's an awesome guy, but I really wish he had someone helping him with creating a coherent interface and fixing the performance problems DF has. It'd be a much better game if forts didn't end because they were too frustrating to try and run at 15FPS.

This one legitimately made me mad. I was so pumped, and then I realize they stripped simtower of literally everything interesting (elevators) and added a whole heap of meaningless clicky game bullshit. You just click stuff and wait for more money to click more stuff. How does someone remaking a classic miss the point so entirely?
>>
My PC destroy the recommended requirements but the game still runs like ass, especially with cities with more than 100k people.

Disasters should have been in the base game and most of the overpriced DLC add barely anything.

Traffic and public transportation still don't work very well. Have an extensive metro system but everyone choose to get around in cars anyway.

I thought paradox were the good guys but these fucking kikes are jewing us out of every penny with their shitty DLCs.
>>
>>375973990
>toady is making a game that nobody else could ever make
>simulation is so deep that at 200 dwarves it has cpu slowdown

you could give him a team of devs and they still wouldn't be able to solve the problem dude. it's just a massive game. gonna have to limit your fort.
>>
>>375974083

You can control metro pricing, at the default barely anyone uses it but if you enact the free transport policy especially people flock to it. Traffic has its own bizarre set of rules, but once you know them (for example, never have an industrial area anywhere that isn't directly next to a highway with multiple giant avenues servicing it), things start getting much easier.

Also, it's only distributed by paradox, not developed by them. It's developed by a bunch of Finns, the team that made cities in motion.
>>
>>375974292
Yeah, I get that part, there are certainly improvements that could be made. Toady has admitted many times that he's not the greatest programmer, and he doesn't know how to implement things like multithreading efficiently.

By merely opening up the rendering code several years ago to outside developers, rather impressive performance improvements were made.

Input from someone who knew how to design good interfaces could also massively improve the game. I play lots of roguelikes and I can't think of any that have interfaces as obtuse as DF (maybe Elona?)
>>
>>375974710

I can't help but feel like improving the UI would be a terrible mistake and turn its hardcore fanbase off in droves. The obtuse impossibility of knowing wtf is going on is one of the major "casual filters" and thus selling points. If you made it so normies could even think about playing it you'd be able to hear the REEEEing from space.
>>
>>375971138
You stupid fuck, if cars are backed up on the offramp it's not the offramp that's the problem, it's the intersection at the end of the offramp. More lanes won't help if all the cars are trying to get to one place.
To solve traffic you need to figure out where the cars are coming from, where they want to go, and give them a direct route with no intersections (a bypass) that takes them to their destination. Otherwise they will spread through your shitty minor streets and clog everything forever.

The traffic simulation isn't bad, it just doesn't give enough feedback to help mongoloids like you figure out how to work it.
>>
>>375975121
it's not like tilesets don't already make the game a little bit more approachable, doubt anyone would care if the interface was improved other than autists

are there actually people who don't use dwarf therapist for instance? that's a necessity that has arisen from the poor interface
>>
>>375974008
Zoom out far enough to see more than a single blurry room and the game mutes all tower sound effects in favor of random outside car traffic sounds and repetitive music you probably disabled an hour into the game anyway. No way to just sit and watch part of your tower while you listen to all the atmospheric sounds of restaurants and stores and offices and elevators like in Sim Tower. No routine sounds signalling the beginning or end of every day like the bird crowing in the morning or cash register sound from end of day income. No relaxing atmospheric rain sound when it's raining.

I know! On the bright side, it's not like they used an IP and everyone else is locked from doing something other than their utter dogshit. They just made a game using the concept, and literally anyone else who gets the feeling can jump in and do it better. There's still hope.

Or you can just play simtower. That works too.
