There needs to be more blue shells per race. It's too easy for 1st and sometimes 2nd to break away with a huge lead while the other racers all shit on each other fighting over 3rd.

It's easy to see why the blue shell needs to exist

In a game where people randomly get attacks to throw at each other and slow each other down, most of the players are not going down the course as fast as they can.

The person who pulls ahead at the beginning is likely to not get hit by anything else, 2nd place is trying to defend themselves from 3rd while also attacking first. 1st place only needs to defend. There's an advantage there, and without the blue shell the entire race could be decided on the first turn of the first lap, for whoever pulls ahead right away ends up with an advantage they could use for the whole race.

Some kind of first place hindering thing is necessary, the blue shell is still fucking awful though. It's not fair for the person in first, it's a complete dead stop for a few seconds. It should be something like causing a lightning shrink effect. that would at least keep the player in control and dampen blue shell right before the finish line moments

The higher CC you play the more skill based the game becomes. ie it's harder to hit a green shell at 200cc than 50cc. Also if you're good enough at driving you either hold a shell/banana behind you, or hold a mushroom to dodge blue shells.

Lightning is just the fucking worse. It hitting you while you are gliding or in the middle of an important drift can completely fuck you in the ass utterly unavoidably, it takes everybody's items and doesn't even really help the person that got it. Worst powerup ever.

It's Mario Kart. It's random, but you can still deal with it anyways. If the blue shell didn't exist, it'd make 1st place an easy position to keep since you only have to defend from 1-2 people. The people you're defending from have to deal with 9-10 people shooting shells at them.
