I'm not sure why Skyrim would still be this loved after The Witcher 3 released. Skyrim isn't even that impressive of an Elder Scrolls game. The game brought slightly improved sword combat (though this is marginally improved at best) and a streamlined leveling system that takes away features from the previous games (like spell creation).

That said, FFIV shouldn't be on that list, There's a bunch of more deserving JRPGs, from the same era even, like Lufia 2, Terranigma, Live a Live, Romancing SaGa 2/3. Let alone later stuff like Star Ocean 2, Valkyrie Profile, Skies of Arcadia, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, or Xenoblade
Diablo 1 probably shouldn't be on there either. Path of Exile probably deserves a mention more.
Secret of Mana isn't even the best game in the Mana series.
Pokemon Red and Blue CERTAINLY aren't the best games in the Pokemon series.

If there's one thing RPGs have in common, it's how open they are in what your character can do. Often, you can form your own ethics and not only decide what's right or wrong, but act it out. You're very often playing an established character and the most you can role play is if you're a sword guy or magic dude.

I disagree. Nothing about Dark Souls is inherently more RPG than Bloodborne even in game mechanics. Stats arguably matter more in BB unless you want to grind chalice dungeons, and the player has less agency in the plot than Bloodborne.

I have more respect for someone's own personal favorite list even if I disagree with it then these yuppies with their try hard lists to get hits on their site.

Let me give you a good example of what I mean friend. I played Mass Effect 2 more times than FFVI but these days I consider Mass Effect 2 shit and realize at the time I was only trying to fool myself into thinking ME2 was better than it really was. In fact these days I can't even really consider it an RPG. It is a barebones RPG at best. I only played FFVI one time but it exceeded my expectations greatly. Also I felt going in that perhaps /v/ was overrating it too much and maybe it is good but not as great as they say. As I said, it exceeded my expectations greatly and it is damn good.

I wouldn't even have Shit Effect 2 in my top 25 let alone top 5. I would definitely have FFVI in my top 5. I don't care if more people played and liked ME2 either like these nu-males clearly do for having a list that looks like this.

I don't know why they always put Final Fantasy 4 on these lists. I can understand 6 and 7 even though neither is my favorite final fantasy but 4 while good should not be in the top lists. Also put more games like Suikoden on it. Obviously, Skyrim doesn't deserve to be on that list. On a side note, I just finished Baldur's Gate and looking forward to playing the 2nd game.

I don't know what W3 you played but every time I used igni, small to medium enemies started a "oh god i'm on fire" animation while taking damage over time. Animation lasted longer than it took to regain stamina. This even worked versus the Bloody Baron's kid.

Majority of the time it's deciding between accepting a monster quest or deciding a character's fate by killing or not.
The only one that caught me off guard was the false god the peasants feared would curse their crops, but that followed the same formula.

Why do you never see this shit with other franchises? Nobody ever said Sonic 1 was better than anything that came before it or SMB1 was the pinnacle of the series compared to SMB3, World or the 3D games.
Even with RPGs you'll never see vehement clingers-on for FF1 or DQ1.
