Why are games considered bad in the games industry?
>make things less 'game-y'.
What the fuck does that actually mean? I just don't understand how you can make something less game-y.

>I just don't understand how you can make something less game-y.
You just don't over cook it.
>>375941391
You make it like The Order 1886
>>375941391
>What the fuck does that actually mean?
less game-y = more movie-y
they're going for the cinematic meme

My fucking sides.

>when you press the button, something awesome has to happen
Based on what they've shown, they won't downsize the base, but we'll likely get more of those fuck awful "boss battles" that win themselves. Press x to plant the grenade and win the game!
New screens incoming

Probably in the way the first games always had you do the same thing 3 times over the ENTIRE game
>>375940735
>less gamey
There goes all my hopes and the small degree of optimism for the new Darksiders. I don't fucking understand the majority of western developers.
Just give me that sweet UNi[st] and Cold Steel 3, Japan

It's explained in the article.
They'll make a more coherent world without spreading items randomly.
Remember the thermoses in Alan Wake? That's the kind of design they want to avoid.

Like we needed any more confirmations that this will be shit
in addition to, you know, the lat two games being mediocre at best
>>375942328
More of these guys, huh

That's good. Not that /v/irgins will actually read the article and try to understand what they meant by that commenct.

If those are the "journalist's" words then whatever
but if they actually said that then that really fucking worries me
>That feeling when I just wanna paint a picture but I want to make it less paint-y
>I wanna write a book but I wanna make it less book-y
Shitlords just don't understand my plight.
I'm amazed the main character of this game is a tranny. So brave.
>>375942627
Does /v/ never read articles?
I got worried when I saw it as well, but it's explained as giving reason and better flow for puzzles and enemies, not just "oh you entered a new room and now it's locked, kill everyone to unlock it and progress"
>>375940735
People are still experimenting, and games get crazy reviews based off things like story. The choose your own adventure style is very appealing to players, but developers just aren't smart enough to make a decent meaningful narrative
>>375942853
>>I wanna write a book but I wanna make it less book-y
Perfectly valid, since books are boring as fuck when they start describing stuff non-stop. We get it, the author is trying to paint a picture with words. Guess what, it doesn't work as well as if he could just show a picture, so shut the fuck up and move on to character development and plot progression.

this is a terrible post

>reading an IGN article
new
also, every vet dev knows the weight "less gamey" carries, It usually means you're david cage or the order 1887

>ascertaining the truth is newfaggotry
Kill you'reself my dude.
>>375943106
I'm all for better flow for puzzles and enemies, but reason is worrying in it's own right. The reason for putting a puzzle or enemy in a location should be that you've thought up a good puzzle/enemy encounter, and you need a space to put them.
Thinking up a good idea for a puzzle should come before you come up with a reason, or else you're going to get shitty forced puzzles. Coming up with the reason after the fact could also harm the greatness of the puzzle.
