That's Big Bang. To be fair, shit was kind of monotonous and unsustainable at that point in the game. Getting high enough level was only obtainable for people who put lots of real money into the game. A change was needed. Though I think progressively they might have gone a bit overboard and now there is just so much stuff that its overbearing.

I had no friends or ever made any so I played the game solo all the time except when I did those party quests, I didn't do much besides wandering around and killing shit.

Runescape was the mmo I was really playing during its golden age, I actually made online friends I did stuff with and it has the best quests no other mmo will ever be able to top.

While I think the original gameplay for the classes was pretty alright, some of the most fun to play classes for me came after the Big Bang. I started playing Maple around beta, and I came back around two years ago. I never got involved with the main storyline involving the Black Mage and I just want to know how it goes. New source update. Converting from edited vanilla v63 to new source code built from the ground up with the goal of implementing modern programming techniques and in general making the game more efficient, especially from the backend to make management more easy for the admins, and to provide a smoother experience for players with less lag.

Turns out they didn't consider the fact that an absolutely gargantuan amount of work needs to be done on the backend (server sided) to do this. What they expected to be a 24 hour - to a week patch ended up breaking the game completely and it has been slowly regaining its features one by one and bugs being removed as they slowly update it and code in old features. As a result, the server became completely shut down for a whole month, with 2 months of almost featureless broken server, and it's finally starting to become more usable now, especially since cash shop was re-implemented. However, there is still much not working properly, and the server active population was cut to like 1/6th of what it used to be.

New account and new character creation has been disabled since the start, so there's hope that once the server is near fully functional, that will be restored and result in a large influx of players.

For now you can play Tera for free. It's fun for a few weeks at a time before you get burnt out, but you can always come back to it and it's fun. If you want to pay a subscription, find out which FFXIV servers are the goos/populated ones. That game is showing no signs of dying anytime soon. It's consistently considered to be the "good WoW" by a lot of people.

If you're leveling its quite easy to get into a grind party as they're always up. Most people quest up until 230 where grinding becomes really good, as well as at 310 to do the newest maps.

For dungeons you can use the shout function or get instance matched at the dungeon entrance.
They also introduced Hunting Grounds (if you played RO think of guild dungeons) that are purely for grinding EXP and loot as monsters there can spawn that give bonus EXP.

Its a lot better than release honestly.
