The design of it goes against every core principle that the SMT series has upheld since it's been fucking made. If you can't debuff/buff yourself to levels alongside enemies themselves, especially when the enemies can do it scot free, that is not good fucking design. If I can't buff or debuff myself or utilize items to cover up the difference in level - thus power - between me and a boss and I have to get punished for that via unfair means, then that's unfairly pushing for difficulty that isn't at all necessary; difficulty that the games themselves have managed comfortably well. I get that it's meant to be an addition for the Hard mode, but that doesn't excuse some of the shit it pulls for no reason in particular.

Also, I love how you say "designed" that way when I fought Ose and he doesn't debuff himself because he's still going off the 4-stage principle. Really great design there, guys!

IV and IVA was really weird about how they treated the main characters' weaponry in the first place. In IV it's weird because Flynn's human and they keep talking about his swordsmanship, but your sword is your weakest option almost every time compared to demon skills, magic, and guns.

Then in IVA, you're supposed to be powered by a god and given superhuman strength, but they treat it as if taking your weapons away means you can't fight. Hell, you can't even match Hope's power in plot, and also can't break some crummy jail cell bars with your bare hands and have to summon demons to do it for you.

Your party and the enemies both have the "+2" limit for buffs though. What zomb did was to just double the effectiveness of every buff, so Rakukaja gives +2 Def instead of +1 now, etc. It's a good idea too since with how mandatory being fully buffed is and how commonly bosses use Dekaja/Dekunda you'd barely ever get any turns otherwise.
Another thing you complained about the -karn skills were also changed to just single target. That's another good chance since quite honestly they are broken as shit and let you completely trivialize the entire game. Tokyo had opened the Gate to the Expanse once, 25 years ago, and they were STILL overrun with demons they couldn't possibly handle, even with buying them off with the Reds with Tayama/Mastema.

The gate is opened more than twice, once by you/Walter when you go to the other timelines, and another time when Lucifer gets control of the place and simply leaves it open. The amount of demons in Tokyo by that point should be absolutely unprecedented.

All you manage to do is shut the gate, and do nothing about all the demons that just came out of it. But not only that, you take down the dome, which ruins the fertile soils and infrastructure of Mikado that could be used, and lets all those demons you didn't deal with run free. Remember Kiccigiorgi? And all the other towns around Mikado? Well, they are FUCKED now. You killed them, for no reason. They are fucking pissant peasant farmers with a pitchfork to defend themselves against goddamn demons, they don't even have summoning equipment.

Nevermind the giant building-sized chunks of the dome that came falling down as it disappeared, likely causing some pointless fatalities too. All they can hope is Flynn singlehandedly defeats a demon apocalypse more than three times the number of the one that causes Infernal Tokyo, before it kills everyone.

If buffs were doubled in effectiveness, then that'd be fucked beyond compare. In terms of practice, I put my team against Matador and not once did the two Sukukaja ever make a difference in terms of my ability to dodge his attacks effectively as much as the four in the original. If it's "doubled" the effectiveness, then it hasn't helped me in much regard as compared to the original's four limit.

Zomb balanced the boss battles around the expectation of "full-time debuff/buffs" when there's so much going against that that it's fucking absurd that he even considered it a good idea to begin with. If he wanted a difficult game that carried that weight, then he should of balanced it toward two stacks - on a maximum of four that the series has upheld since forever - and gone there. Gives immediate use for War Cry setups and Fog Breath as well as prioritizing one stage shit for mana saves, especially since he wants you to have a team where you use more than three demons at a time.

You're right about the -karn spells in terms of mid-game, but come early game, it costs too much to cast them, and come late, you'll get Almighty butt-fucked for even considering it. The mirrors are a nice way to set-up for Matador since he usually starts off with Mazan the first turn, especially on lower level runs when you don't have the demons to void wind like you would later on. If it was really that much a problem, he should of made Magic Mirror and Tetrakarn completely different, especially considering the Demi-Fiend can only use one item per turn, which is the amount of time that the buff even lasts.

I don't know why most people don't get this. YHVH is always there, and has always been there. The problem is that humanity, summoning literally uncountable amounts of demons, and destroying all that they have created, becoming slaves to demons, and being slaughtered left and right by demons, is literally why he's sending in Angels to erase society and kill most of humanity off, so that when he makes the next wave, they HOPEFULLY won't fuck up and summon a literal apocalypse again. The only exception to this rule is Nocturne, where he doesn't really have a hand in things.

Nozomi in 4A was pretty good, honestly. Having access to Smirk, Daze, Sukunda, Blank Bullet for Trumpeter, Magaon, and Gun Pierce was pretty fucking strong in the Cosmic Egg and Twisted Tokyo.

In 4 she's just a complete jobber who never does anything right and goes "teehee! You might be a better hunter than me xD" and then shoved her into some random plotline about fairies in the end. At least Apoc, with all the homeslices and bananacakes, gave her some mettle.

Asahi and Navarre were a much more straightforward benefit, Hallelujah countered specific bosses with better ease, Toki could solo hoards and their reinforcements, Gaston was amazing for grinding DLC mitamas, and Isabeau had Mediarahan and Luster fucking Candy. Nozomi was clearly the weakest
