The theme, if we define 4 as "truth must be revealed, even your inner true self" and 5 as "rebel against the status quo, stop shying away from it", 6 will be something, again, roughly in between. instead of people in power exploiting others and taking advantage it will be people in power actively pretending things are different from what they are (to reflect the current state of the world with 'fake news', skewed polls, insistence that certain things have always been the way they are despite plenty of available information pointing to the contrary)

The game's otherworld/Metaverse is accessed via computer. 'Palaces' would be based on countries and formed from the collective thoughts of its citizens, starting idealized but revealing the dark side as you descend.
Each one you invade is on the brink of starting a war, usually with good intentions but fueled by lies from the media and politicians, and by stealing their treasure you calm the blood lust enough for them to actually figure out and begin solving the real problems.

Expanding on the thematic use of texting in 5, maybe most/all non-party social links are other players in an MMO that the MC loves but is pretty dead.
You get to run around the major hub and talk to their avatars instead of it just being text.

Personas are awakened by characters losing a body part in the otherworld, and later summoned by removing the prosthetic replacement.


MC is a gaijin exchange student. One night, shortly before the start of the school year, he nods off at the computer.
He dreams of wandering around the city, before getting attacked by some pseudo-SJW punks for appropriating Japanese culture with his outfit or some shit.
They cut off one of his fingers, awakening his persona, who reveals them to be Shadows, and thus his journey begins.

Also, the final boss is a variant of Mara, with nukes and shit. Major villain has a massive hard on for destruction and what he can gain from it.

I like Yakuza gang war idea. MC can be a high school student whose father, the Oyabun of a Yakuza family, is assassinated by his brother along with the rest of his family, to take control of the gang when the MC was a child.

MC returns to Kobe under an alias chosen by the player and joins the gang with the hopes of killing the Oyabun, his uncle, and becoming the new Oyabun.

He finds out about how his uncle was able to use his Persona to establish the strongest gang in all of Kobe.

MC acts as a Hitman for the gang to kill the bosses of rival gangs that wield Personas to eliminate any threats to his power.
