There's absolutely nothing in common between the "original" and this new one. Old one was a very oldschool-ish FPS game with neat gimmicks, the new one seems to be a heavily consolized System Shock / Bioshock clone.

Yet another overhyped trash game, which will clearly attract the wider, modern audiences.

Looks like a cross between BioShock, System Shock, and Dishonored. On that criteria alone, I’m very interested.
However, with the terrible performance issues of Dishonored 2 (the studios most recent title), and the lack of a PC demo, I’m worried this is going to be abysmal in terms of technical performance.
I’m happy to wait a couple days for reviews and reports on the performance. If it’s even decent, I’m jumping on this right away.

The lack of hype comes from Bethesda barely advertising the game.

I'm really interested in this game, but I seriously have no idea what to expect.
Taking the name just really rubs me the wrong way. I'm not even mad about them scrapping Prey 2, shit like that happens all the damn time, and the trailer for that seriously doesn't look so great now, compared to when it came out.

It just makes the whole thing feel so goddamn shady and cheap. If this game had a different name I'd feel much better towards it. Still though, if the reviews are good and the port isn't crap I'll probably get it if I can get it for a somewhat ok price.

The game also looks kinda cheaply made, like the UI and stuff looks like a fucking indie game. I kinda felt the same way about Dishonored 1, which visually kinda felt like it was quite where it was supposed to be. Chris Avelonne being on board is a plus though.

Arkane is one of the very few good LGS successors. Not perfect devs, but at least they have the right intentions.
Arkane's stories are always pretty weak, so this time it has Avellone on the team and in a more important role too, instead of writing some side stuff like in most other projects he's working on.

Also a spiritual sequel to System Shock or so they say. And it looks more SS1 than SS2, and I like that a lot.

Everything about it looks good if you try to look beyond the initial negativity surrounding any new FPS.

System Shock 2 didn’t have a skill tree either. Every stat was just on a scale of 1-6. You need divergence and branching out to call it a tree.
Sure, you can use modules for permanent health and psi upgrades, but you could also use ADAM for permanent health and EVE upgrades. Just because you don’t get a number displayed on the health and mana bars doesn’t mean there isn’t stat changes.

Prey is even more casual than Bioshock (with Vita Chambers on). At least Bioshock respawned enemies after you died.

The original Prey is a 6/10 at best, it won't take much for Arkane's Prey to be better.

Dishonored 2 was fucked up because Arkane had no clue how to use id Tech and refused to learn. The release was such a problem that Bethesda forced a large portion of the id tech team to fly to France and fix as much as they could. Most of the people who worked on id tech are ex-cryengine people and also helped out on Prey while they were there to make it not run poorly. It should run well unless Arkane undid their hard work.

There's not much use complaining at Arkane about it. The game was probably pitched and developed as a new IP until Bethesda or Zeni stepped in and forced the name change, since it's cheaper to just use a pre-existing IP than making a new one and they weren't doing anything with Prey.

I played the demo on PS4 and the game controlled like GARBAGE on controller. There was some pretty bad input delay and the game didn't run very well, hopefully these issues are fixed on the PC version but the lack of a PC demo worries me. I'll be buying it, giving it an hour to see if all my worries were addressed and if they weren't I'll just refund on steam.
