Maybe it's because I'm jaded but I found Spec ops to be quite dull. I understand that the whole point is to feel bad for the crimes you commit but the game forces you to do so without much of a choice like the white phosphorus scene.

It isn't, though, the game is more an examination of the relationship and identification between player and character; a lot of people miss this and just assume the game is criticising them directly.

I agree. But then, it isn't exactly uncommon for reviewers to miss the best parts of a game, or miss the point of it entirely.
