Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, KoF and MK have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, MIGHT.

Nah. Just look at SC3, 4 and 5. By the time SC5 came out it was a completely different game. If you keep switching up directors you end up with one hit wonders like SC2. They'll never make the game feel as good as SC2 did unless they knew how the SC2 directors made it. But since they're gone Namco will have to stick with winging as they always did until their next lucky hit. Namco should have tied down the SC2 directors when they had the chance.

Tekken easily, but MvC comes out so late you might as well get both if Marvel proves to be decent.

It's easy to pick up if you don't look at a 100 something long movelist and panic. Very hard to actually get good at, though. Movement is more important in Tekken than pretty much any other fighting game and the execution can be scary at first.

Nah, fuck that. I'm not that anon, but 3D fighting games are a little more different than 2D a little more in-depth on a comparison point. Would you consider the Wolfenstien 3D and Bulletstorm easily relatable just because they're both FPS with the appeal that they are both action FPS games?

Tekken and MvC are both fighting games, yes. But one sorta spin-offs into it's own subgenre with it's own take on existing mechanics and emphasis on others. Tekken 7 and greatly emphasizing on previous titles, there were no supers, no ex, no meter, etc. With that in mind, it had a priority on other traditional mechanics along with new concepts on others, like positioning, environmental hazards and alternate fighting styles to fit the genre and lack of thereof mechanics.

Anon had the right idea but couldn't put it into words. While I digress, with the appeal and selling point of playing it as a competitive fighting game, is it fair to compare Guilty Gear versus Smash 4? Both are played on a competitive level with sponsored events and players.
