Can anyone recommend games like Daggerfall?
First person (not required) dungeon crawling RPGs with an emphasis on exploration and experimentation.
I've tried Delver (overly simplistic), Eldritch (entirely too short), Wasted (Adult Swim trash), and Heavy Bullets (repetitive with little to no reward for experimentation)

kings field? morrowind? legend of grimrock?
I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for....
ultima underworld is real good but the controls might put you off. imagine daggerfall if you couldn't set it up to control like an FPS

None of those mentioned are turn based, though.

How about, you know, Daggerfall's sequels, Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim?
>>375902678
I enjoyed Eye of the Beholder when I was a kid. Don't know how the gameplay holds up today that was more than 20 years ago I think.
Skyrim.

I agree, fellow unbiased video game consumer
>>375903343
no it isnt dipshit
>>375903343
Grid-based movement but it's real-time
>>375902678
Arx Fatalis should be right up your alley
Pathways into darkness.
>>375903353
>>375903383
Skyrim doesn't offer or reward for exploration and there's not much in the way of experimentation.
>>375903436
>>375903474
I didn't like it.
>>375902678
Undertale
>you're welcome
Might and Magic 6-8, obviously
>>375903529
>Skyrim doesn't offer or reward for exploration

It punished you instead. Find a unique weapon? Hope it wasn't at an early level, or else it'll be outclassed by a rusty dagger a bandit had shoved up his asshole for a week.
System Shock 1
>>375902678
Ultima Underworld or Arx Fatalis maybe?
>>375903989
that was only for these as far as i'm aware
http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Leveled_Items

>>375904736
A game that doesn't take six years straight of mods to make even semi playable
>>375902678
Breath of the Wild, no joke.
Lands of lore
>>375904724
Looks great, but I'm not into grid based movement right now

>ctrl+f grimrock
>a few results
>ctrl+f arx

Sometimes you are alright, /v/.
Other obvious choices are pretty old and dated, but if you liked Daggerfall, try Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder.
Maybe Wizardry or Might&Magic titles as well, though they have a bit more story to them.
Ok, honest question. What do you guys mean by "experimenting"? Just how much experimentation can you get out of a hack and slash game?
>>375907275
what game that be
Crawl Stone Soup
>>375907387
New mod by Hdoomguy. Nothing concise out yet, so don't get all hot and bothered
>>375907275
potential for a variety of characters builds, ways to interact/fuck with npcs, an environment that reacts to what you do with is(arx fatalis cooking chicken for instance).
>>375902678
Might and Magic 6.
>>375904662
Exactly what I was looking for, actually.
>>375907275
How much damage do you think a rock does if I throw it? What about this potion, can I throw that? If D&D logic applies, then does throwing a potion of healing harm undead enemies? Sure, I can unlock doors with a lockpick... but can I lock them behind me as well? I wonder how much damage I can do by throwing this dagger if I'm in a pinch. Can I dip my arrows in poison? If I eat a Gazer corpse, will I gain intrinsic vision upgrades or will it just make me ill?
>>375902929
this
>>375907464
You joke, but Necklace of the Eye really could make it first person.
