What did they mean by this?
>>
Steam's a piece of shit company making everything steadily worse and worse breaking things that no one complained about.

Microsoft and Origin and even uplay is actually looking more like a viable alternative.

>Today we’re announcing changes to gifts on Steam. The gifting process has had a bunch of friction in it for a while, and we want to make it easier for you to share the games you love with friends. Steam Gifting will now be a system of direct exchange from gift buyer to gift receiver, and we will be retiring the Gift to E-mail and Gift to Inventory options. Here's a quick breakdown of benefits from the new system:

>Scheduling Gifts Is Even More Straightforward
Go ahead and buy a gift months in advance and have it delivered to a friend on time, every time.

>Declined Gifts Resolve The Way They Should
In the old system, a declined gift would sneak back into the giver's inventory and remain on their bill. Now, if a recipient already has the title, or just doesn't want it, they can click decline and the purchase is refunded directly to the gift giver.

>Safe Cross-Country Gifting
No more worrying if a Gift to E-mail or Gift to Inventory is going to work for a friend, gifts sent through the new system will always work on the receiver's account. When there is a large difference in pricing between countries, gifting won't be available and you'll know before purchase.

These changes are now available. Please let us know if you see any issues or have any feedback.

Depends, before it was a region lock sort of thing, so the new system might be better. but how "large" is a "large difference in pricing"
50%? 20%? just 5%?
>>
does this apply to steam keys?
>>
they already region lock games from different pricing regions so i dont really care

they should make it so you can optionally buy region free copies for the international price

Hah. This change affects no one but jews that stockpiled shit during sales so that they could trade later.

It barely makes gifting any easier (although I guess maybe russians can trade gifts with brazil or something) but that's about it.

It makes sense from a business perspective to finally kill store in inventory. I'm surprised it took this long to do it.

>trading is even more kill
>>
>>375881592
Pretty sure this problem effected the game makers as well.

You know it's all fair to try to find the best deal (fuck yes I'll get Prey for $42 bucks thanks GameBillet). But people abusing Steam regional pricing and then selling the CD Keys is kinda wrong.

People who trade their $5 game for $15, because it's not on sale right now at $20. They're upset.

On the other hand, I buy games on sale and store them in my inventory. I trade them away when I feel like I'm never gonna play them.

I did, though admittedly not very hard. The path their site instructed me to take to solve my problem required I log in with the account I no longer had access to. I suspect if I just looked for a phone number that would work and maybe one day I will but I've heard they require an awful lot of proof to fix this kind of thing and I'm really not interested in spending a few hours on the phone with support digging through emails and trying to remember account details for the privilege of using their shit platform more, thankfully I got all the games for pretty cheap through humble bundle so I'm not losing that much money.

>>375886082
I'm not sure which is worse, EA tech support on the phone, or through their website. I've had their website chat service not respond for three days, only to get an automated message on how to solve a completely different problem than the one I had. On the other hand, I had EA's phone support put me on hold for hours, I just put my phone on the charger, left it there on speaker phone and did house work, made lunch and later dinner, watched netflix, played a game on PS4 since I couldn't get my PC Origin game to work. I was in the middle of dinner when they finally answered the phone, and the tech support person had an accent so thick I couldn't understand half of what they were saying. They ended up refunding the game and taking it off my account, even though all I was asking for was a fucking fix.

EA's tech support is SHIT.

After reading through the changes, as a legitimate user, that buys and gifts for normal, "I want game" or, "I want to give someone game" reasons . . . I'm not seeing the issue. The only people screwed over are those that were attempting to exploit the old systems to get things cheaper or profit from said exploitation.

This is a good thing.

>>375887842

You can still gift games to people.
>>
>>375887761
This really sucks, I've been buying my games as gifts from a site for a while since I usually save 25-50% since they're bought during sales.
>>375887842
This

The problem for Valve is that other people are using their platform as a profiting platform. Depending on the country, I'm sure that could have legal problems.

I don't see why they wouldn't just only restrict cross country from certain countries though. Just block countries with cheaper games from giving to westerners

Im in college and all my money goes to my tuition. I can barely afford to buy videogames as it is from Aлeкceй on g2a, guess i should just start pirating. Sure they might have gotten 1/4 of the price for the game (unless ofcourse artyom used credit card fraud to buy the key), but its more than 0 right?
>>
>>375895791
They buy keys/gifts from Steam that would have not have been bought in other ways.
They then sell those themselves, and those people that buy them may recommend the game to others.

The only thing that 3rd party sellers end up doing is taking a risk to continue a sale longer than normally set. The owner still gets theirs, but people who missed out on the sale can get it.

Plus the owner may get more since the 3rd parties have to play a game of risk when they buy on sale stuff and estimate how many of them they can resell. If they don't resell enough, then the game owner literally got free sales for nothing.
>>
this is kinda gay. i would buy games that are on sale to keep in my inventory if i didnt want to play it right away and possibly trade it.
