Nothing is shit at endgame. You can clear any content as and job.

Most team comps are determined by world first for that tier until Fflogs start showing up with a different comp.

PLD is the weakest dps of the 3 tanks and has shittier magic mitigation than DRK and the only content this tier where damage was a problem was A12S before echo/ everyone got gear, so DRK outshine PLD because magic damage. You could still clear A12S with a PLD, but it was slightly harder on the healers and you needed a BLM for Apoth.

Just play what you enjoy, don't stick to one job,try others, use Palace of the dead to see how other jobs play

Yeah. Despite all the hype for SAM its been looking pretty underwhelming in just about every capacity so far.

Some of the katanas in the benchmark looks neat but that's about it. We haven't seen the RDM weapons but I'm sure those look cool too.

The moves are dull, the AF is a lame robe, and that limit break was more underwhelming than Final Heaven.

As someone who got into FF14 recently having played WoW in every xpack it's a nice change. It's actually possible to die or wipe in dungeons and classes that aren't BLM or WHM use a ton of different abilities instead of spamming 2 or 3

MSQ is somehow even more boring than WoW's fetch 50 bear testicle quests though, I'm also only level 40 and while the environments look nice and are pretty well done (As opposed to plains surrounded by mountains), the themes are a bit boring so far; forest, desert, whatever the fuck noscea is, plains: snow edition

I stopped doing Ixal quests after maxing it. Now I just wait to get more leve allowance to burn them on other DoH classes (just need to do it on one more class, then I will let it hit the cap to burn them on Stormblood).
Moogle quests are way better in every way, and at max rank you can just do them for a week (possibly less than that) to max a class without spending a single leve or gil on it.

I can't blame them to some degree. Its very counter to general thinking. Trash is just that, its trash. Bosses should be the hard hitting, tough fights. That is how is in most mmos, but in ffxiv its the other way around. You don't even run with your tank stance for most bosses unless you're really under geared.

as someone who has done all of creator as a blm (which is considered hell on earth apparently) i'll put it this way

black mage's rotation and skill usage is simple and minimal because half of the class is dealing with movement

you have to optimize your movement, because losing a cast is a massive hit to dps since your damage comes out slowly and in big bursts

movement optimization includes using procs correctly, sometimes saving swiftcast in your opener if there is movement quickly after the boss is pulled, etc

it becomes second nature after awhile, and you'll get to a point where you can implement it in any fight and learn very quickly, but you have to devote a lot of time to this class to be good at it

With XIV every "position" tends to feel super same-ish. Your melee dps, your ranged dps, your healers, and your tanks all have to perform the same roles to a ~5% difference of each other and it really shows. Most of your melee DPS have 2-3 DoTs and a buff to keep up (Suiton, Greased Lightning, BotD) + some positionals. I don't really play SMN and BLM, but SMN is basically just a DoT caster with a tacked on pet, and BLM is "timers, timers everywhere."

BRD and MCH are almost the same thing, mechanically, even if they achieve the end by different means. They even forced MCH's "turn into a turret by giving yourself cast times" onto BRD so that they would be similar enough to bring to raids safely.

Meanwhile, WoW is a bit faster, each class except Demon Hunters have at least 3 spec options, and things like trinkets impact your playstyle heavily. Classes are allowed to be different between each other and even between specs.

SMN and BLM are both completely unique in how they play. MCH and BRD are similar but MCH has the burst thing going on. The melees are similar but they each have something that sets them apart. SCH and WHM play very differently, and while AST is similar to one or the other, they still have cards. The tanks are all a bit samey by necessity though they still have very different niches - being a PLD or DRK usually means being a main tank while being a WAR means being an off tank, and those two roles are completely different in most hardcore content.

FFXIV does literally nothing new or interesting. I cannot understand how anyone can have fun playing that game. I guess MMO players have been fed shit for so long they've learned to like it. It's just social bullshit, there is zero way anyone enjoys the slow, grindy, repetitive gameplay.

They like it for the same reason people like WoW. They're enamored with the setting/series or are fully consumed with nostalgia and refuse to move on. There is zero excuse for accepting these games nowadays.

I've started playing the FFXIV trial since we've finished clearing mythic NH and I have to say it feels extremely asian, like Tera and Blade and Soul when I tried those for one week.

One of my biggest issues with FFXIV so far (I'm level 13) is that it doesn't feel like an MMO world at all. Invisible walls everywhere coupled with loading screens every 100 meters makes it very annoying and it feels like a dated single player game. I want to try a dungeon eventually and see how those are.

really wish they'd remove the enmity bonus from tank stances, would make tanking in this game less about muh dps since you'd be too preoccupied keeping actual threat.

The equivalent of ogcds in WoW can be used simultaneously to other actions, but all this entails is that every class macros all their 4-5 cooldowns into one generic burst button that uses them all at the same time, and it ends up not requiring any mechanical skill to execute at all.

Hitting more buttons than 1 at a time is fun. Playing FFXIV is like hitting a button, waiting for the clock to go down, then hitting another button. Because most of the ogcds have such a high cooldown and a small active window, there's so much downtime in combat that it makes it feel like you're playing a mobile game or something.

the game is sluggish. The animations being unappealing don't help, either. XIV suffers from a lot of refinement, but I doubt Square cares since they're still making money from their cash shop

Why did they think Neverreap was fun? How is having to dodge 12398423 tornadoes when you're just trying to DPS and get to the boss enjoyable? The bosses are all shit too. Besides the over-used "boss vanishes and leaves adds/copies of itself" mechanic, you had to play hide-and-seek, interrupt your DPS to move totems every few seconds, and that fucking boss at the end. Holy shit I hate that thing, I never want to see it again. It combines tornadoes AND vanish-adds appear AND mindlessly charges across the field while you deal with its fart sprites. Getting Neverreap all the fucking time in Expert Roulette didn't help either. Now when I get it in lvl 60 I just sigh and settle in for 15 minutes of annoyance.

It's like they saw a new mechanic potential and went and put it everywhere they could, whether or not it made sense to do so. They didn't show restraint and now we can never see tornadoes again. I didn't mind them in the Bismarck fight- they were annoying, yes, but limited to one phase- and outside of those two instances they don't exist. Maybe for the best.

Frankly the xiv community is at fault for calling things the wrong names. The GCD is xiv is the 1s universal animation lock on all actions, which extends to 'off'gcds as well. You can see it very obviously when you try to weave multiple ogcds consecutively. The 2.5s lockout on weaponskills should really be called the weaponskill cd or something.

If you're calling it the GLOBAL cooldown, you really should be using it to describe the lowest interval that exists because it wouldn't be very global otherwise, would it? It would be like you decided to call 1 meter the planck length instead of the actual planck length.

Holy hell, I hate this fucking thing. In WoW, you can press multiple actions and they go off. In XIV, if you even try to hit from a gcd to an ogcd, or a ogcd to ogcd, you have this small fucking delay where it doesn't read fucking anything. I was trying to remember what was the other thing pissing me off and now I found it. And the sad part is, the game makes no notification or show anything of this time delay.

The reason I say it can take the genre to the next level is because this is the only upcoming MMO that is actually big enough to influence the market and make people realize that MMOs don't have to be like fucking WoW or EverQuest. It's not just the fact that it's an FPS that makes it different, the game has entirely different design philosophies and are targeted at a much wider audience because it has much more consistent and steady progression whilst being much less time consuming and not requiring nearly as many players at in a group to clear content. You think it's not an MMO because it's so different from WoW or basically any other MMO that has had a modicum of success ever since WoW came out, but that's the whole fucking point and the main reason it could actually be something worthwhile.

Yes I loved doing what it took to play the game at a faster speed. I have a mouse with extra buttons on it and had my moveset(s)/menus/extra shit all bound onto keys that were within reach of WASD without moving my hand.

Once I got good with that control scheme even mythic+ speedruns didn't feel fast paced. MMOs are slow games. Especially when I tried alting a more traditional class in fury warrior. I can't fucking imagine an MMO with 2.5 seconds. I could take a nap between moves.

Honestly joining an FC and talking to people while grinding out the beginning was how I got through the 0-50 grind. Truly the game starts to really shine at 50 and basically starts at 60. Keep with it anon I'm sure you'll find some type of love for it. Plus once you get your first 60 leveling Alts is a lot faster.


Tip: if you're an FC make sure they have "heat of battle on" always so you level faster. All FCs should have that on at all times. Also buy some cheap food for that +3% exp gain.

For the most part I don't like the look of any of WoW's races or any of the equipment. The animation looks bland, the world is this clusterfuck of shit I don't care about, the story seems to revolve around these characters with backgrounds and stories spanning through other games that I get the impression I'm supposed to care about but just can't. I just can't get back into WoW, at this point it's a game for another playerbase I'm not part of, which is fine.

To be fair, I don't really care that much about XIV's story either. I mostly play that because it looks good, has great music, and BLM feels like I'm exploding shit around the clock while having a huge wardrobe of robes and pointy wizard hats to choose from.

I don't get why slow combat is an issue. You can weave abilities between your GCD and should be doing it for optimal dps. I don't particularly mind the slow combat since I grew up with old turn base final fantasy games. To say slow combat is bad is to say a lot of turn based RPGs are bad too simply because they aren't over the top action oriented.

It's not even the peripherals or being an audiophile, though. The music just isn't well composed. It's repetitive and grating (a lot of the overworld music, at least) and the boss themes have no real character or good progressions. It's just choirs, a lot of percussion and brass just thrown in for the heck of it.

I dunno. I can't blame people for thinking it's good, since a LOT of games have really bad sound direction nowadays, when it's a massive part of what makes a good game. And I mean sound direction, not just music.

Again, it's not bad. But compared to even the main FF titles, it's bland and average at best. People just praise it to sound smart, I imagine.

I wish FFXIV was a more responsive game from a server and engine standpoint, I get that being able to abuse it to finish casts whilst moving as casters is really fucking helpful but it just makes the game feel jank as fuck and not the good kind. tfw it will never be as responsive as WoW.

Ninjas are very slow. I played them. The ninja button combo action alone already makes it pretty slow since you cant get the action out until the sequence is finished. Not to mention, the dps sucks so much just because you guys have faster gcd, it makes the class very underwhelming.

NIN could be fixed if Square revamped the class into a jutsu class instead of the shit they made there. Could be something like Invoker from Dota.

You'll spend the majority of your time at level 60 and there's a ton of content of the game there. Pretty much everything discussed in these threads is happening with people who have atleast one sixty battle class character. The game does start at level one and had a decent story, to play through because you have to catch up through years of content just to get where Majority players are. They do a good job of keeping old players playing old content so it's always relevant for noobies. Just because you wanna be autistic and sperg out doesn't show anything other than you wanting this game to fail. that's a pretty good idea. I like the class from an aesthetic point of view and will be switching to Samurai but if it was something like that I think I'd enjoy it more. You got pretty good ideas.

Anon, I'm not sure how you can say that. There are a few of tracks I'm sick to death of but most of them are pleasant or outright amazing. Even if I didn't like all of them, the music for the Primal fights were all well-matched to the boss. Each area has its own feel. And there are some dungeons I love to get simply because I like the ambient music there. (Pharos, Arborterium, Gubal,
etc.) Not every track has to be composed with the same skill as a Classical genius to be praise-worthy. Being able to see sound as colors probably makes my opinion invalid though. I like a lot of shit people can't understand because of that.
