This game had everything expect fucking gameplay and that whole AMD technical issues

Splash damage are hacks one of the worst FPS developers ever

Brink had
>Good art style
>a good soundtrack
>Trailers with world building
>Factions with distinct styles
>Interesting setting/concept
>GODTIER gun and character customization
>interesting class/teamplay aspects

The problem was SD decided to make it like Enemy Territory since ET mechanics are the only thing they know what to do. Now ET has amazing team mechcanics as seen in Brink and Quake Wars but the fucking gunplay and parkour aspects didnt work.

I used to think Betdesda fucked this game but I now think it was Splash Damages incompetence

They did get a second chance by making another game with good art design and team play mechanics but its Splash Damage

Seriously fuck this developer whoever is one their art team should get work somewhere else. This shit pisses me off
>>
>>375832821
even vanilla ET was fucked and the community had to fix it with etpub, etpro

Wait is Dirty Bomb actually by the Brink team?

I thought it was similar but never made the connection
>>
>>375833271
yes db is made by splash damage. it is good but its had the same 5 or so maps for 6 years now

After ET Splash Damage never really did make another good game.
I wonder why they're still alive.

Fuck I remember how excited I was then ultimately depressingly dissapointed I was when the game actually came out. Sometimes I see it in my steam games list from time to time and I have to remember all over again how shit it is.

Did people actually have any problems with the game itself? Because my only dissapointment with it was how it had no population

No seriously fuck these British fucks an FPS game like this should NOT have this good of a soundtrack and art style

The problem is I actually fucking adored Quake Wars and used to to say Bethesda fucked them over on brink

After dirty bomb it was 100% Splash Damage
>>
The ET series has some neat mechanics but why do they always sacrifice the shooting aspect

I get some people enjoy it but it does not work for brink
>>
>>375832275
Back when /v/ still bought into hype.
>>
>>375833271
The artists definitely overlap, since they don't really have anything to do on their contracted projects. The issue is that those contracted projects took most of the resources and staff away from development of DB, leaving it as a side project manned by a skeleton crew for 6-7 years.

They just now started hiring specifically hiring for DB at the start of the year (which is only because they got bought, and their parent company is probably funding DB now), so the game should finally start picking up the paces as long as the people they hire are competent. They fucked up really bad by launching OB as early as they did.

>>375832821
>I used to think Betdesda fucked this game but I now think it was Splash Damages incompetence
It was fucked up on both sides. It's been so long I don't really remember the specifics, but Bethesda forced them to do consoles, which fucked the dev cycle up really bad, and SD is SD.
>>
>>375833702
I was probably one of the lucky ones but I had almost no technical issues with he multiplayer. It lag every once an awhile, but besides that it was all good, though I did play on a console I don't know if there was a huge difference when playing on the pc.

What was the biggest problem with it? I mean yeah some people said the shooting sucked I guess
>>
>>375832275
one of the worst, if not the worst, video games i have ever played

>action packed multiplayer team fps!!
>here stand in front of this console and hold E for two hours to watch a bar go up while you can't do anything else
>awesome parkour system!!!
usable by light class which you cant play because they die to 1 shot. great job.
>cutscenes after multiplayer matches
>cutscene after a multiplayer match in which someone yells at me and calls me an idiot, after my team won the match

abysmal. 1/10 type game.
>>
the art style for this game was top shelf

the game itself was boring at best, confusing and stupid most of the time
>>
>>375836134
>usable by light class which you cant play because they die to 1 shot.
competitive play was 90% lightclasses
>>
>>375832275
Brink was one of my most favorite games ever. I was really surprised it died. Just one day I noticed I was playing with the same exact people over and over day to day and I looked up the player counts and it was just dead. I have no idea why it freefell so hard and fast I was having a blast.
>>
>>375836404
which has what to do with any brink that anyone actually ever played? absolutely nothing

it was an incredibly huge, daft, game design mistake. why would you go tot he trouble of making a system like that and then allow the playerNOT TO USE IT IT???
>>
>>375836005
The biggest problem was that you HAD to work as a team. There were some choke points that were just impossible in random games because it absolutely required flankers engi suppression objective defenders and decoy runners. If your team did not work together it was hell.
>>
>>375836567
wow, a real live person with no taste.
were you, by chance, 11 to 13 yeras old at the time
>>
>>375836995
I agree it was dumb, just saying that light classes were incredibly viable, more so than any other class
>>
I would give BRiNK 2 a chance if it had an actual single-player campaign, set in a semi-freeroam Ark. I really liked the setting, world building, and general theme of class friction where neither side was inherently in the right.
Too bad there's no real story left to be told except the one they already did.
>>
I remember warning idiots it's gonna be shit.
Then it turned out shit.
One of my proudest moments of smug self-satisfaction.
>>
>>375836995
Because that was the point. Its a team based game you wanted slow tanks for holding the objective while the medium classes set up firing likes and turrets and the light classes flanked and distracted.
>>
>>375833702
Population was a big part.
A big factor in that was the launch bug that locked out the AMD portion of the market.

But, gameplay wise it had pretty shit balance too.

3 size classes, light, medium, and heavy. Each step up progressively lost more movement ability, with the heavy losing pretty much everything.

What was the gain? A single SMG bullet worth of damage between each step. And a bunch of useless guns, as the Heavy's exclusive weapons were pre-nerfed into the ground.

Then we get into the loadout classes. For the most part these were fine. Then we get the Engineer's second level of weapons upgrade. Which turns the games alright TTK to the hilariously short one of modern shooters.

Then the fact that single player was sold as having a narrative and cutscenes, and ended up being bot-matches you had to clear to unlock crumbs of lore.

And, the topping of it all. No mod tools, because we live in the era of DLC, so the handful of maps it has are all there will ever be. And most of them underutilized the gimmicks it has core to the game.

escort the vip,the vip is down, the vip is down, the vip is down

Don't forget the incredible "challenge" maps you had to do to unlock customization stuff.

AMD's fault, not a bug

AMD didnt have a compliant opengl implementation until like 2014

The "lore" of brink could have been kickass

The story even if it was light did a great job in making both Security and Resistance be very grey in their ideals so not one faction was the "good guy"

>an FPS game like this should NOT have this good of a soundtrack and art style
It's funny, because Brink was amazing in a lot of fields, but game design was not one of them. The soundtrack was phenomenal, the art style (though some people had issues with it) was stylistic and thematic, and the setting was really unique.

The plot was barebones, but it did a good job at setting up a really interesting scenario: a bunch of rich fucks built themselves a wonderland on the high seas to escape the collapsing old world, only to find themselves inundated with thousands upon thousands of dirty refugees desperately looking for help.
>>
>>375838218
Honestly the two "reveals" that both sides were wrong was sort of frustrating. Arkoral was disintegrating, and the Ark was doomed to sink into the ocean over the following few years.
The mainland is occupied by violent savages, who have killed anyone who the Ark has sent to explore.
I felt like it made either choice meaningless since both were doomed to fail; it wasn't particularly poetic.
>>
>>375837716
The theme was crazy ahead of the curve. That kind of intelligence could easily elevate a good game to a cult game. Too bad Brink wasn't a very good game.
>>
>>375837978
Not really.

The Ark takes in the refugees, because mindless humanitarianism.

Which gives the refugees enough stability to say, "Hey, why can't we live in the lap of luxury like the people who paid to be here! I was promised an apartment in the tower and all the white women I could rape!"

The Ark people work to expand the taxed facilities to better accomodate the boat-people. But it's dangerous work, and people die.

The Rapefugee leader's brother dies in a construction accident, and he decides, fuck it we'll just kill all the people who're helping us survive out of the goodness of their hearts.

Now, because they helped the boat people, there is war on the streets of the Ark. No good deed goes unpunished.

Sink the boats.

I'd rather have a spiritual successor made by someone other than Splash Damage.

Same basic structure, same theme & premise, same customizability, but with actually good gameplay and map design this time around. And maybe a proper campaign mode, not this audio log & bot match bullshit.
