The only RPG we've had has been Dungeons and Dragons. It's the origin of the term. Games still aren't anything like DND in terms of just inventing and collaborating on a story, which is the essence of role playing (stats are a necessary foundation but aren't essential to JRPGS). Yep. Getting out of the room is not as much difficult as it is reliant on you knowing a lot about Wizardry monsters and spells they can cast. Most of the game has unbearably fucked level design, which is both entertaining and blood-boiling, like an actual tower with slopes in 2d, where you'll casualy walk out of the structure and fall and won't even understand why you are constantly returning to the lowest coordinate. Or a giant minefield level. There's also a secret endings that requires you to guess there's a secret underground level in the tower, just below your prison, teleport there and answer some Caballah to become literally fedora-tier enlightened and kill God by proving he's not real. There are no hints in the game about any of that being possible at all, except a cryptic "but aren't you forgetting something?" in every other ending. Seriously, fuck this game, I love it, but I hate it just as much.

It has nothing to do with that, it's a crock of shit because it looks rushed as hell with barebones excuses for character recruitment and horrendously tedious areas like the big magic tower thing that only has mage enemies and whose boss is a palette swap of an earlier boss, he also does ultima when he dies and unless you knew that beforehand AND have Life3 unlocked at that point AND cast it, you're fucked and you're gonna have to do the whole tower again.

Fuck the world of ruin, the only remotely decent part is Kefka's dungeon because it actually plays like old part of the game, makes me think the devs just fucked off after that and left the wor to newbie interns.
