NPC's are also residents of the town with similar knowledge or slightly more than the PC so they can fill in the broadest gaps, the rest of the lore should be handled by notes and such.

a lot of daylight horror at the beginning, I know it's not been a big part of the series in the past but it was done well enough for what it was in 2 and would be a refreshing addition to the series without majorly changing the tone.

third person over the shoulder or first person shouldn't matter as much as giving the person a reasonably limited inventory. [the horror in the game is psychological, not visceral so ignore / neglect / use sparsely the jump scares] not like 4 or Down Pour, but a careful player with the classic unlimited inventory system was never in need of items. make people choose to take a medkit or keep their handgun.

finally, keeping with the urbex idea, make the dungeons and buildings maze-like, and increasingly maze-like as the game goes on. a linear set of locations isn't a bad thing, we all know how awful the idea of choice can be when we think back to Down Pour, but too linear and we get rehashes like 4, a happy medium, and something that would add depth and refresh the gameplay would be to 1: scale the complexity of a location and the amount of available lore similarly to Dead Space and 2: give the player alternate routes through a location to the next, or to a boss room

I like to think of it like the early 2000's TV show Wolf Lake. werewolves rule the small town from the shadows, but not everybody is a werewolf, not even most people know about their werewolf overlords and the people that suspect it keep it to themselves because they are their neighbors after all and you can't have bad relations with your neighbors, especially if they can turn into a fuckin' wolf and maul your ass, or in the case of Silent Hill, sacrifice you to their demon god or forcibly indoctrinate you/your children into their religion.

this is just me attempting to refresh the ideas in the games, you don't have to like it but I think it adds depth without actually saying too much about what goes on in the town, like there's people that live there all the time, even during the events of the games, they do their best to ignore it when their neighbors and blocks/neighborhoods get swallowed by the abyss, and batten down like a hurricane is coming through when things get rough but in the end it's kind of normal to them.

and with the young protagonist being a resident of the town not understanding that there's a good storytelling opportunity.

No. The reason Silent Hill 2 is so effective is because it's not about the town. The town is an after thought. In SH2 the town is used as a tool, an excuse to explore the characters of James, Angela and Billy. The character isn't an excuse for us, the player to explore the town.

The six blocks around Norman's neck contain equations related to black holes and interdimensional travel, the PT radio talks about gateways to alternate dimensions and the men in the sky. I'd play up the guilt aspect up.

At the beginning of the game the most dangerous things you have to worry about are other humans who only take one to four hits to go down.

But at various points in the game you have the option to do something morally questionable to proceed as a convenient shortcut instead of going through a more challenging encounter. Like, say, you need to get through a door or face off against more people than you think you'd be able to handle with the amount of ammo you have left. But the door is locked, and oh, that shop has a crowbar you could use to break it down.

So you rob a store to gain access to that shortcut, but doing so increases an invisible "guilt" meter. And the further you go along the more heinous the choices become. But if you're up the point of committing murder you won't feel as guilty about stealing.

As the guilt meter increases so does the town's hold on you. Monsters start appearing, locations start shifting, doors lead to where they shouldn't, or doors become walls and walls become doors.

The more horror aspects get introduced the more convoluted the puzzles become, way more convoluted than anything in past Silent Hills games at the highest levels, but there are far less of them, compared to if you don't do anything that builds your character's guilt up the puzzles are a bit easier but way more numerous.

One of the mysteries of the game would be "Why can these gangs and looters operate in Silent Hill no problem?"

I'd also have the people who worked on the first three games around to help so I don't fuck it all up, and I'd seriously listen to their advice.

Silent Hills is it's own thing, it's not going to crossover with characters in MGS. MGSV ruins the series canon beyond comprehension. Zero despises Big Boss and wants to fucking kill him. He and Big Boss are supposed to be having an insane war, constantly at each other's throats. But instead Zero rescues Big Boss from the helicopter crash, nurses him back to health and even creates a fake body double to use as bait for his enemies. Yeah, totally sounds like something Zero would do.

Not to mention Zero is now in his coma before the events of MG1? Big Boss created Outer Heaven and Zanzibarland so he could kill Zero. Zero was also the one who reconstructed Frank Jaegar as the Cyborg Ninja and put Big Boss into his nanomachine coma. Because of Zero's actions in TPP Big Boss's speech at the end of MGS4 makes no sense whatsoever.

The Venom Snake thing is dumb as fuck anyway.

Come E3 the GzHelicopterCrash variable will change, triggering the real ending of Phantom Pain. We will likely revisit Camp Omega and find out what REALLY happened after the helicopter "crash". The revelation will completely refrain the events of TPP, potentially retcon them as a coma dream, leaving the real MGS5 to tell the war between Zero and Big Boss, as well as how Big Boss become the villain and recruited Foxhound.

I'm over this series. Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2 are two of the best games ever made. The rest either have serious problems or outright suck. I think PythonSelkan were largely right about MGSV and that had the game been finished properly, they would have hit the nail on the head almost perfectly.

While their Death Stranding theories are interesting to watch, I don't believe Kojima and Konami are in some kind of ruse, especially since Konami is in a financial dire straight right now. They wouldn't risk pissing off their consumers by publicly wanting them to hate the company. Their falling out with Kojima is understandable considering his constant flushing of money down b list actor toilets, but their treatment of him was meant to stay private.

I'm guessing since he no longer has access to the Metal Gear and Silent Hill licenses, he's making a hybrid of both so that he can continue his "stealthy CUHRAZY soldiers" games in a new direction.

The idea of someone having a crisis of faith in a cult that involved drugging people, abusing children, the odd murder here and there and all sorts of fucked up shit, while the MC was probably dosed up to the eyeballs on White Claudia, would make for an interesting backstory to explore. Maybe have them try to rescue as many people as possible from the cult as they make their escape. It also might be interesting to make the plot a little clearer than before (because there's little left to be kept secret of obscure at this point) and focus on the actual gnostic philosophy behind it. Because that shit is more terrifying in the real world than any weird section of a video game.
