I will never understand why anyone equates her to Lightning. Lighting's story ended 3 times for each game, but they kept forcing her into other. Aqua on the other hand is just another female character in a long running series whose part in the story never ended. Her place is no different than Ven's and Terra's who still have a part in the story that needs a real conclusion. And there's also the fact that she's only really appeared in one KH game, not counting her small tech demo/story setup that was in the port. I mean, there's tons of chars you can equate to Lightning, but Aqua? Give me a break.

Kairi and Namine are shitty damsels in distress every single time they appear on screen, and other than that, we're left with them being off-screen 70% of the game. Larxene was good but she only had one game and died fast as fuck. Xion was alright but she suffered from the same Larxene handicap. Aqua is the only not shit, capable girl to actually survive past her first game and still be able to fend for herself.

I don't think so. Consider this; Rather than ask why Terra is always hanging out with the villains, ask why a villain is coincidentally almost always the first person he meets? Keep in mind that while the audience may know they are the villains the characters don't, which should be obvious with Xehanort and his huge "I <3 Darkness" sign.

Now ask yourself how Aqua is almost always the last to go to a world and thus the one there for the conclusion to it's plotline, or the point where it has to be resolved.

That kind of writing happens a lot in BBS. Terra is the fuckup partially because he is put in the position to be constantly, while Aqua is the 'smart, capable one' because she is constantly put in the position to be. Ever wonder what would have happened if she came upon Eraqus trying to kill Ven instead of Terra? Too bad, because that'd be a situation that might make her look bad. And no, saving Terranort doesn't count because it's supposed to show how good and selfless she is.

And all that is neverminding how they changed the ending of 0.2 to make her look so strong and capable instead of actually looking vulnerable for once.

Now that I think about it the Lightning parallels go way further. Ventus is the Serah, it checks out because both are moody children who go into space-coma and need rescuing. Terra is Snow because they are both angry idiots and constantly at odds with Aqua/Lightning. And Aqua is cast into the void at the end of BBS, 13-2 retcons the end of 13 to do the same to Lightning.
