I barely remember the build but there was a sunspear skill that every time a critical was landed you'd have a 75% block chance for a while, and there was a skill that refreshed with criticals that gave you a like 50% chance to crit. Used to run shiro for one platinum each for hours at a time.

Variety was what made Guild wars so incredible, and there was a genuine sense of community. Before doing hard mode missions or even regular ones, everyone would post their builds to chat and explain if necessary how it functioned. Then others would suggest variants if necessary. I can't imagine how many hours I have in GW, but I remember really being able to understand the mechanics of every class early on, despite it being extremely complex (If you were playing with other experienced people, which usually was the case surprisingly.)

No multiplayer game today can go 5 minutes without dealing with a fucking "XD it's just a game y u mad?" bimbo, I don't remember ever being that angry at someone in GW.
Granted I was at the beginning, I picked dervish and played like an elementalist. I cringe looking back.

I remember this one we were farming somewhere in Elona. No idea what it was but I got invited to a group who needed a tank. I was playing Dervish, not really yet knowing anything about the class but the people in our party gave me ideas to what kind of build I could come up with on the spot. Sure, not every skill was good, but most had a place, even if it was obscure. I can't speak for GvG, but in HA you could very easily do well when not running meta builds. The group I played with did so very frequently.

I fondly remember us going all night in the Hall of Heroes only for someone in our alliance to observe our matches, see the gist of our builds, and try to counter our non-meta build. Or our primarily warrior player saying he wanted to run Hundred Blades for fun and us building around that and succeeding.

The world gets stranger as time goes on, it's hard not to be optimistic I think, the stranger things get the more possible that the shit you want will eventually happen.

I played GW1 and absolutely loved it, played for many years.
I also played GW2, expecting a lot from it, but you can guess how it went. It had nothing of the things that made GW1 great.
Still, I managed to have fun with but, but mostly because of friends and because there was nothing better. But after Heart of Thorns came out, I had enough of Anet's bullshit and quit permanently.
One year later now, the game got even worse. Glad I quit that shitfest.

developers would release one full campaign in 6 months. by the end of 2007, 2 and a half years after the game initial release, all the game was done.
Now ,it took them 3 years to release that shit HoT and another 2 to release the next exp

Dervishes were my favorite. I think I experienced the single player GW format at its most pure when you get to the mainland in Nightfall.
North, south, east, west exits from the hideout.
Avatar elites weren't broken but they were really distinctive. Each was available in a decently difficult fight in each direction.
Getting them all with a buddy and hero squads was the definitive GW PvE experience for me.

Still played more PvP though. I really liked water and earth elementalist builds, though most of my playtime was in the factions PvP mode as an assassin build made for that mode. I did so well with it but I can't remember it for shit.
