5, 4, and 3 all have a blend of gameplay mechanics that 1 and 2 both missed (obviously the daily life gameplay). Other reasons that they aren't that popular is because of the combat. Sure 2 had good gameplay but there are lots of questionable design decisions, not to mention the psp remakes are a lot better in the gameplay aspect. 1 on the other hand had a grid based battlefield and had a problem that maybe 4 only had, the fact that their endings are tied to a question that isn't really hinting at the fact that it leads to a bad ending.

The map system of P1 and P2 is really dated. Every step you take changes the color of the block you stood on before, and acts as a sort of map guide. But you might get the urge to color the whole map. Don't do it, because there are stages with unreachable corners. You will end up hating the games.

So I've never played a Persona game before, and thought I should start with P3 since people generally say its pretty good. And I've been enjoying it alot so far, but seriously now, can some explain to me how the fusion system works with the Personas?
I've been so scared of touching it and fucking something up that I've been using Orpheus for literally my entire play through so far. It's probably me just being an autistic idiot, but after casting Agi and only doing 50 damage for the thousandth time, while Junpei's casting Agilao and does 100 damage, am starting to sense am missing something.

when you get to the persona fusing, check what skills the persona has(triangle iirc), and compare it to what comes out after fusion(when you push X but don't finisht it) Then check the skill names on the wiki if that's what you need, also if you've got a social link maxed for that persona then it's much better
Let's say you need a persona with agilao, then try fusing bunch of shit and check if you're gonna get agilao from any of those, then finalize that one

I'd spend some time grinding, but not a lot. Being able to do Tartarus at night (and not having much else to use your night for) is useful because it doesn't cut into your day time activities such as social links. If you don't feel like rushing to the barrier or your party is tired, then there's no need to.
