In my opinion? Not even close. The main story involving Kevin/Rieß is really boring and the dungeon is just a deluge of unceremonious boss fights by the end. Some of the memory doors are great (Schera's and Olivier's) but some of them are also incredibly boring (Tita/Agate's and Mueller/Julia's). It works well as a coda to FC and SC and as a prologue to Zero and Ao though, so it does what it needs to do.

The scene can even be from the past, for example there is one detailing Schera's life as a noob bracer. If i remember right, stuff that happens in the 3rd foreshadow events for future games. Lots of people thought Falcom was being cheap and made a "mission expansion pack" sequel, but after all the character stories and the whole foreshadowing and wolrd building included they forgave it slightly i think.

the 3rd plays more like a story-heavy dungeon crawler instead of a classic Trails game. From what I've read, it's essentially impossible-tier to do a first playthrough on hard, and even after NG+ spam impossible-tier to run through insanity.

Supposedly the design was that the first game in the series was supposed to be the easiest, the second was supposed to be a middle ground and the third was supposed to be the hardest. And with the way that they hamfisted the extra difficulties that weren't actually intended to exist into the game, it just ends up making the third stupidly hard on higher difficulties.

I actually think CS1 still has a lot of the elements that make Trails great, even if the main party is somewhat bland. CS2 is still a good JRPG, but it's the weakest game in the series so far and it really shows Falcom didn't plan Cold Steel that well, trying to pull off more than they can chew. Other than the great parts (Intermission, Ending and Crossbell Gaiden), everything else doesn't add anything to the characters or world and it's pretty much just filler (which makes sense; CS2 is basically the remaining 20% of CS1, albeit extremely padded). I also think CS1's storytelling was more polished.

But really, most of CS1+2's problems came from development issues they had with the Vita and being rushed, with just 2 years for games on new systems and engine (aka PhyreEngine). All of the previous The Legend of Heroes games had around 3 years of preparations+development (5, 6/FC+SC, 7/Zero+Ao) and it shows. I'm happy they're taking their time with CS3 to get it right this time.

I'm not trolling.

The translation itself is solid. It's readable, the characters personalities and such come through, etc.

But it is ESL as fuck. It gets better as it goes on, but it's jank, and literally just about the entire first half needs extremely substantive editing.

I don't expect to see it until the tail end of this year.

Simple problem: the Evo artist isn't Katsumi Enami, who made his style work in the first place because he's got better fundamentals than whoever did the Evo ports.
