Thimbleweed Park. It is X-Files meets Monkey Island with a dash of Twin Peaks. So far so good, but I haven't beaten it.

well i looked it up on steam and bought it. i love all three of those things. hope Ron can still deliver after all these years
>>

this was a kickstarter stated by the dudes that were in the old lucasarts point n click adventure division. pretty sure they made monkey island
>>
>Guys remember how some point and click games had some fourth wall breaking
>What if we made a point and click games with 30 years old graphic that breaks the fourth wall every5'th second?
>Great! nostalgiafags will love it
>>
the game is really good
every Gilbert adventure has that one puzzle that is pure genius
well, this one packs about 4-5 of those puzzles
but it also packs a lot of problems: the last puzzle is a fucking joke
you need to watch a video on kickstarter to end the game (literall what OP posted)

other than that, the game shows who got the talent in Lucas Arts, and who was a con artist

why do you keep using the kicktstarter pre-alfa art

why would they, he didn't work on it
would you expect gilbert to be thanked in doublefine's games?
>>
>>375802158
(cont) I forgot the other 'problem'
there is a dialogue puzzle
I wont spoil the thing for anyone, but there is a puzzle that is literally resolved by talking between two specific characters
it is one of those things you figure out by just trying things out of boredom
it is not an absurd puzzle, but to figure it out you have to remember something from the very first part of the game

once again, really cool game

I liked this game at first but the "DUDE FOURTH WALL LMAO" got a bit old for me. It felt like they were taking it semi-seriously at first but then ran out of ideas so just gave up. Breaking the fourth wall is fine here and there but using it as a crutch for your entire plot is just lazy. Also the two detectives were almost identical as far as gameplay was considered, 99% the same abilities and dialogue, could have easily been the same character.

Ransome is best character.
>>
>Gf who's a huge LucasArts fan decides to play it
>Constantly hear kooky, totally wacky references to older LA games and game-related 4th wall breaks from the other side of the room
I never liked LA games outside of Monkey Island, of which I only really enjoyed 1 and 3, but what I heard/saw was terrible.

It was painful hearing the non-stop self-referential jokes.
>>
>>375802658
too bad ransome had basically nothing to do
>>
>>375802687
LucasArts games were always filled with wacky references to their other titles

>>
>>375802763

>>
>>375802781
There's nothing wrong with comedy, Thimbleweed takes it a step further than that, I don't want to spoil it for you (though you've already been spoiled a bit by reading this thread).
>>
did anyone else get sick of the music and turn it off? That's my only negative apart from it being the same areas over and over
>>
>>375802591
ask the tube girl to bake a cake for you, while you are the nerd girl
it does not work with any of the other characters
>>
>>375802485
>>375802914
I made sure to talk with every NPC with every character so I never had this issue.

Multiple characters is one of my favorite gimmicks in adventure games, I love getting different perspectives and seeing how differently they react. It's a shame that the detectives have almost identical dialogue.
>>
>>375802759
I don't remember anywhere nearly enough references in MI. I remember a tasteful joke about Loom in 3, and the famous "only buy a game if..." gag in 1 which was clever.

Thimbleweed vomits them out non-stop and sometimes regurgitates the same joke multiple times. There's way too much of it and that's coming from someone who only heard the game in passing. One of the most crucial aspects of comedy is surprise. You're not going to surprise someone if you're doing the same kind of joke over and over again.

Of course you can say it's part of the plot but that doesn't excuse obnoxious writing.

SORRY YOU FUCKING KIKES NEVER PLAYING ONE OF YOUR SCAM GAMES AGAIN TAKE """"""""""PSYCHONAUTS"""""""""""""" AND SHOVE IT UP YOUR FUCKING ASS
>>
>>375803135
(((PSYCHONAUTS)))
it's not the same developers though
>>
>>375802914
I think you're talking about the pie, in which only the nerd girl needs it so why would anyone else go ask for it?
>>
>>375803235
doesn't matter that turbo kike retard thief scammer schaffer is involved
>>
>>375803068
yeah, that is true
the thing is that many have not encountered the problem, because AFAIK the nerd girl is the most used/preferred character for many
but if you use any other as your main, you can get stuck for an hour like a did
>>
>>375803329
well I was skeptical too, but I waited for reviews on this one and then bought it.
Schafer's only involvement was tweeting to buy his friend's game
https://twitter.com/TimOfLegend/status/847482096759185408
>>
>>375803303
I agree, the puzzle is correct as it is
but you can do a lot of other things without the need on a specific character
>>
>ron gilbert makes a kickstarter that goes under most people's radar
>the game is actually what tim schaefer promised but never delivered
Tim Schaefer is such a hack and Gilbert such a genius.
More proof that even at lucasarts schaefer just hogged the fame of other people and rode the coattails of others.
>>
>>375802687
> I only really enjoyed 1 and 3

fuck you, monkey island 2 was the best one, yo dont have taste at all

im buying this game right now
>>
>>375803329
>>375803135
But this is ron gilbert's game. Not schaefer's game. It's like the anti-thesis to what schaefer did.

Schaefer is lucasart's inafune. A hack who didnt invent shit who happily claims to have invented shit.

good job OP
>>
>>375803817
>puzzle
>absurd object combination the game tells you to look for in a kickstarter video

let's be honest here
the game is good until the whole meta thing hits
I would patch with:
>more clown
>a little more clown
>aliens for the xfiles crowd
>romance between the agents
>more nerdcon
that shit was a big lost opportunity
>more gameplay using ghosts out of the hotel
>no kickstarter trash
>no meta trash
thank you

I'd just be happy if characters interacted between each other. Despite having to exchange items all the time, it's only by the final 5% of the game where their plots collide.

that freaked me out. What was it referencing. pls no bully
>>
>>375804251
Really? Like, REALLY?
Maniac Mansion. The game almost has at least one MM reference in each level. You really miss out on much of the game "humour" if you haven't played it.
>>
>>375803958
how would you have ended it?
>>
>>375804356
yeah I thought so. I've only played the monkey island games
>>
P&C adventure games were never good. You merely played them because there wasn't any alternative.
>>
>>375804454
monkey island is a better adventure game than a link to the past
>>
>>375804024
>can't examine the other protags

Wasted potential. Blackwell series nailed this shit.
>>
>>375804454
I actually loved Syberia, The Longest Journey, and to a lesser extent Still Life, Scratches.
>>
>>375801170
sooo who actually attacked the agent behind the diner? and who killed franklin? who actually murdered the guy from the beginning and why did he have a pillowbear prototype? what was up with rey getting abducted? nothing seems to be properly closed off, and if it was it was lame as shit or just didn't make sense (i.e. reyes' ending "oh well i know this is pointless but i have to end my story", ransom's ending would've made more sense if he apologized to the witch). you can have mcguffin elements in a story, but generally they shouldn't be more interesting than the direction the actual story goes! ultimately this seemed like a lame alternate ending and really just made the game feel like a waste of time.

Wait, is this JUST for people who pirate it?

And nigga, don't act like pirates won't buy your game; if it's not shit, most of the time i'll get around to buying it.
Hotline Miami was money well spent; Starbound on the other hand was a mistake.
>>
>>375804713
Like it's been said already, it felt like the writers gave up on the plot at the end.
>>
>>375804397
really good question, but I think it is pretty simple to answer

you resolve the murder
all the stories interconnect in a genius way
maybe we find out one of the characters was behind all the stuff

years ago, meta was genius. the ending of MI2 for example. but now, meta is pretty much overplayed

i carried around Poopsi for the entire game with Delores saying "she didn't want to waste it!" and nothing happened
>>
>>375804994
A shitload of items are red herrings with no use at all.
>>
>>375804713
Ending also felt apart for me.
Basically all the points you mentiond.
Feels like they ran out of time.

Very monkey island 2 in that sense.
Amazing game, rushed and weird ending.
>>
>>375804994
You can get rid of it by pouring it into the plant.
>>
>>375804823
It really feels like something that would have been made right before or right after Mi2 and was lost on a floppy disk somewhere in the lucas arts office for 25 years.

When meta twists were still fresh.

I kinda hated it too, but not to an extend that it broke the game for me.

What weirded me out was that the pizza conspiracy subplot seemed so undeveloped for something the game teased from the second screen on.
>>
>>375805267
>I kinda hated it too, but not to an extend that it broke the game for me.
Loved the game, hated the ending.
Just to make that more clear.
>>
>>375804713
I guess the Sheriff is behind everything. He works for Chuck, so he hired Boris to kill Franklin (that's why he has the teddy bear), then the sheriff killed Boris (to destroy the evidence) and framed Willie. Or something. In reality it doesn't matter, the whole murder is just a mcguffin that was never meant to be resolved, as unsatisfying as that is.
>>
>>375805267
were the signals real?
>>
>>375805617
I guess technically they were.
>>
>>375804810
>Like it's been said already, it felt like the writers gave up on the plot at the end.
They gave up on the plot the moment one character starts cooperating with another without even saying a single word to each other. Which is at about 1/4 of the game IIRC.
>>
>>375805267
>pizza conspiracy
I honestly believe this is a nod to /pol/ and the pizza gate
>>
>>375806637
But it was super undercooked.

Also they were kinda right with their conspiracy in this game.
The goverment AND the pillow factory owner WERE out to get them.
>>
>>375806429
yeah that was annoying honestly.
Ransome and Dolores can't interact with each other at all I think
