Which cut content do you wish to play?
The location test build of Night Warriors where Donovan was top tier.

I'd love to be able to play the version of Wind Waker that wasn't rushed to market.

It's so strange because I know there won't be too much to it but all the z64/beta stuff is so interesting to read up on and speculate a lot of this stuff despite none of it really making it far in development. Like, I want to traverse that old forest map just to explore and see how far they finished it but it's a pipe dream unless a seriously old build somehow got found and dumped.
I remember finding out you could actually go into that one small map depicted in an early beta screenshot in the debug rom and immediately checking it out. It wasn't much but it was still something and it was cool to see in-engine right in front of me. I believe this was the particular room in question but it's actually been awhile and I might be thinking a different map.

>>375795669
And let's not forget this early town map! Even in the small blurry pictures, you can clearly see just how incredibly basic and unpolished it is. This somehow gives off the air of something
truly mysterious which just amplifies the need to explore it yourself. Like, obviously you know it's going to be empty and kind of creepy but that's exactly why you want to see it, if only to find something you hadn't seen in any screenshot.
z64 is pretty much the only beta title that really does this for me. There's certain off-shoots in some titles that spark that intrigue(like the map in Xenoblade Chronicles that can actually be accessed from official copies), but nothing comes to the level of the many iterations of oot.
All of the cut colossi from SOTC.

Lastly I'm sure everyone's aware of Beta Quest by now. It's obvious now to most how the Beta Quest codes worked the way they did; I can't recall the entire explanation, but I believe it had to do with the way the game calls up triggers for cutscenes in maps and whatnot. Anyway, it's undeniable that intensity that Beta Quest initially sparked in the search for things developers didn't want you to see, and it was incredibly fun to explore back when most of us weren't privy to how it actually worked. It made the game fun again in a very unique way and it did actually help uncover some unused assets. This is why I think the term "Beta Quest" really holds up in the end. It made many of us try so many codes and weird things to see if we might trigger something truly unique or something we saw in early screenshots. I can still recall the times when people would report on their findings in super long posts on forums and whatnot.
Looking back it all was pretty stupid and cringy, but damn if it wasn't fun for the communities involved.
And hey! Who could forget the Ocarina Pedestal?
There's also the hunt for the Triforce, but I'd rather forget a lot of that. So many liars and morons, that was truly embarrassing.
It still hurts

Maaan, beta OOT was so alluring.
I remember waking up early and messing with Beta quest all day and browsing ZSO(Zelda's Secret Ocarina) for things people have discovered.
Like you said, I have always hoped that someone would eventually leak an old build or something, that would fill in a hole from my childhood.
It sucks knowing how it all works now, there isn't as much mystery like that anymore with recent games.
Don't get me wrong, there's still some really cool beta content being discovered(Cutting room floor) just not as spoopy/mysterious as OOT was, perhaps its a nostalgia thing?

Thats probably all it is. Just a few trees. Nothing more to explore.

Kamek would have been cool, but we got FUCKING DONKEY KONG in its place, so..... Well, sorry for you Kamekfags!
>>375792590
The real Wolf Amoung Us.
>>375799359
I liked Kamek a lot, he was great in Yoshi's Island, but they decided to just fully abandon everything that game set up when the 64 rolled around. Sad times. Yoshi's Story was one of the biggest disappointments of all time.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII
-Invasion sequence
-Protag who didnt give a shit about killing other people
-Getting revenge a thousand fold
-Female protag who wasnt another shrine maiden stereotype
-Kingdom Hearts style gameplay
-Car was a means to an end and not a glorified loading screen
-Shakespearean plot with ambiguous morals
-Mafia style royal family that worship Death
It all sounded edgy as shit, but it sure looked better than what we got.
>>375799723
shit man I would have settled for a game that was actually complete at release

Kamek is a she
>>375799875

>>375798717
This look a lot better than ocarina.
>>375799986
Maybe that is why it is not in the game, the N64 could not handle some of the stuff that was in the beta so they changed it

They look pretty fucking stupid, though. No sane designer would've left those ones in.
>>375801217
Can't those get reactivated with cheats or something, though?
I vaguely recall something like that...
Maybe it was just a hack.
>>375802993
But they were left in. They're not accessible normally, but you can cheat them in with game genie.
The Taxman remake puts in an actual cheat code to enable them, too.

I was always fascinated about the hub world of Diddy Kong Racing in the beta builds.
>>375796249
theres a theory that the town in Wet Dry World was originally an early prototype for a Zelda style map. it makes sense, even the textures look similar to the screenshot you posted. and this was back when the Zelda 64 prototype was running on a heavily modified SM64 engine (as evidence by Link's segmented joints animation just like Mario) so they probably used the same map data tpye
>>375800682
>>375801157
these look like artist mockups rather than something actually running on hardware
still really cool, that's probably what an HD 2D Sonic game should look like. hand drawn hi res sprites and cool backgrounds
>>375806106
The Wet Dry World itself had the feeing of being a bit out of place, something about it made it stand out from the other areas in the game.
Opinions?
