This game had incredible multiplayer.
Getting 4 people together who are actually good enough to play it is a pain, but once you do it's really great.

Playing 1 life sniper only matches on corneria city was the best.
Zoness with instakills on was full of intense mindgames due to all the mines.

Falco and Wolf are the only real characters though since everyone else is 2 slow.

I always wondered if this was actually a deliberate design decision. It had to be, right? Even the strategy guide I owned had something about "multiplayer strats" and it basically said that if you're on foot, fucking hide from all ships.

Maybe they were trying to implement some kind of cat-and-mouse dynamic? Honestly it wasn't that fun when you only have 2-4 players.

Worst map was the basic map 3 or 4.
Whichever one was a tower with the most campable item spawns of all time.

Desert was cool because of how fucking HUEG it was.
Felt almost like something out of serious sam and I would have loved if it was a campaign level with shit to do in it. For multiplayer it wasn't great unless you liked getting dicked over by people dumping the cluster bombs off the top of the map.

The ground missions weren't very good. I could tolerate them if they all played like Fichina, but instead we got garbage like Sauria and the Aparoid homeworld.

It's a damn shame too, because the visuals were on point, the character bantz were on point, the multiplayer was a gamecube staple, the music was amazing, and the story was an enjoyable ride for what it was.

We can agree that Sauria was the best map though, right? That shit had something for EVERYBODY.

They felt completely detached form the other parts of the game, and they were watered down on-rails compared to past games.

Depends on what you mean:

>Red, basic homing launcher
Shit for the intended purpose (shooting down airplanes), but if you stock pile enough you can bully tanks and other players

>Demon/revenge launcher
God's fury packed into a rocket. 95% success rate to kill whatever the fuck you point it at. To this day the only way I know how to avoid it is to hope there is a building or wall you can duck behind while it's flying in your direction, and hope you aren't close enough to get clipped by the blast

Here's a fun game. Four people, Falco only, no radar, Corneria, missile launcher mode. It turns into some Spy vs. Spy shit. Do you run around looking for a good spot? Do you blow up your missile midflight to intercept the one flying in your direction? Or do you rush the enemy player's position and hope to kill them before their missile reaches you? What about the other two players? This is basically mind games: the weapon. The missile itself is actually pretty strong, capable of downing an Arwing in a single hit, but since it can be shot down and it moves pretty slow, well...

And yeah, Assault had the best version of Star Wolf theme out of any game. Overall, most of the reorchestrated 64 themes in Assault were top-notch.

I was pretty good at taking down Arwings with the red launcher. The guided rocket was where it was at, though. When people saw your screen switch to the missile's eye view the fear of god went into everyone.

Of course, if they had the balls to come find you while you were guiding it shit could get very messy.
