Sequel when?
>>
>>375785375
There was a sequel rumoured, but it got shut down by creative assembly pretty quickly. I doubt we'll see it, sorry mane
>>
>>375785375
I want a prequel on LV426 but it has to start before shit's going down. I want my comfy station this time.
>>

>>
I'll fund it

Why can't my first fap have any good art? It's not fair.
>>
I wonder if they'd use the format for a game based on the new movie.
>>
Alien Isolation was great but I'd love to see what they can do with The Thing Although that might be too scary.
>>
>>375787362
The Thing wouldn't make much sense since it's a creature that hides and only turns when it's either caught or thinks it has the drop on somebody.

I'm probably gonna go to hell for this, but, besides the actual game based on The Thing (and Metroid Fusion), the closest you can get is pic related.
>>

>>
>>375787362
That would be awesome as multiplayer. Wait shit it exists... not as horror though afaik.
>>
>>375788304
I always wondered if a version of TTT would work for a Thing game. With Traitors being able to morph and consume the Innocent players.

I guess it's a question of if the converted players would play along once they join the Thing team.
>>
>it sold 2.4 million units on consoles alone

How is that not enough to justify a sequel? I think I read a couple months ago that Creative Assembly expanded their studio, so maybe?
>>
>We will never have a remaster with upgraded VR support. (It was fucking awesome on DK2, fuck the naysayers)

>We will never have multiplayer Survivor co-op with players trying to avoid the alien while fighting eachother or working together.
>>
There wasn't enough Amanda Ripley SFM porn to make a sequel, I guess.
>>
>>375788820
Because Sega is the one that gives it the green light. Sega doesn't fund any sequel unless it sold extraordinarily well (except for Sonic).
>>
>>375789938
The fact that Taylor gets all the porn and Ripley gets almost none is criminal
>>
To be fair, I was hoping for a more 'metroid' type of game when I started playing it, since you return to previous locations a lot and the alien seemed to roam around. It soon got very scripted though.

I'm hoping Prey delivers on that freedom but I would have liked it with Alien.

Can someone explain to me how this game is good at all? I was hours into it and it still felt like a tutorial. For something with the word "Alien" in it, there was certainly a lack of just that. Does it really go from boring walking simulator to amazing survival horror by the time you slog through the start?

Pic related to show I gave it a chance.
>>
rehashed total war cashgrabs gives them more money and thats all SEGA cares about
>>
>>375792706
Jesus fucking christ neo-/v/. You're the reason horror games lack subtlety these days. Slow build up to create atmosphere =/= walking simulator
>>

It takes a while to get going, but if you get through the medical ward and still aren't enjoying yourself, then quit.

Sega. Go figure. Though it is a question how much they poured into just the licencing alone.
>>
>>375792858
There is a difference between "slow build up" and "no build up". I immersed myself in the game, read everything, hunted for extra things as I was going along, but it never really delivered much. Found myself loving the atmosphere. Still didn't do it for me in the end. I can dedicate plenty of time to games, but I don't feel much need in forcing myself to slog through hours of a "tutorial" section just to get to the good part.
>>
>>375793239
Even after all these years, I have yet to complete medical bay because I turn the game off as soon as the alien drops.

Yes, I am that much of a pussy. Sneaking past Joes was fun but also tense. As soon as the motherfucker drops though, I just can't do it.
>>
>>375793239
Playing something for 3 hours is usually a decent indicator of, at the very least, a game's potential fun. Especially when that 3 hours is two and a half missions done out of twelve.
>>
>>375793706
The game picks up at medical and never stops. Trust me, the first three hours are only the first steps, once you head to medical, that's when the real game begins.

3 hours in a game you can play for 25 hours easily is not that much.
>>
>>375793445
>There is a difference between "slow build up" and "no build up".
>I immersed myself in the game, read everything, hunted for extra things as I was going along, but it never really delivered much.
Sounds like you're going through the game like an achievement checklist instead of really immersing yourself.

It is a pretty long build up but I think they measured the tension right with the game showing you the chaos the station is in first.

>>375793706
>Playing something for 3 hours is usually a decent indicator of, at the very least, a game's potential fun. Especially when that 3 hours is two and a half missions done out of twelve.
But you haven't reached the actual monster yet. You can't judge it on a time basis because you're impatient.
>>
>>375793794
I can give it another go if I quit just before it started getting good. I'm pretty gay for the franchise and my initial reactions were pretty positive.
>>
>>375793445
>>375793706
My dude, I was so immersed that I didn't even percepted the time. Just being "immersed" was good in itself.

>>375793696
Normally have nerves of steel, but this game managed to make me shit my pants. What a nice surprise the Joes, just as good as the Alien
>>
>>375793961
That's the problem. That is why I really want to enjoy kaiju films, but most of them don't do it for me. They usually spend far too long on the humans and not enough time on the monster. Not really a great analogy for this.

Anyway, other than the title, you wouldn't even realize this was about an alien if you went in blind. Think of it in that fashion. Your mom is missing, you finally get to try to find out why, and all hell is breaking loose. Amanda probably thinks everyone is crazy and there is no actual monster. That is fine for Amanda, but I am the player. The player who bought this to be a part of the Alien experience. You're telling me I have to play longer than both of the first two films combined before I even get to know that is what the game is about? A slow burn is fine, but I felt like I was still fumbling with the matches.
>>
>>375794321
I didn't really perceive the time either. I only know it because of Steam. Really am going to give it another shot though. If I was right on the edge of being pulled into the actual game, might as well keep it going.
>>
>>375794426
When the alien actually appears and walks around, you wish that it would stay away.

It is in every area once you complete medical and you don't get anything to drive it away for another hour.
>>
>>375794514
You can craft molotovs. Have fun trying to use them, though.

Not him, but I think you should try it again. It's one of the most thrilling games I've ever played. I felt like I was a small creature low on the food chain and no game has made me feel like that.
>>
>>375785642
A studio wouldn't shoot down a rumored game. They'de deny a rumor if it was true or false - not go, "lolz, your rumor is true. We can confirm the game now, it'll be out in 2 years when we start working on it next month."

retard.
>>
>>375788687
Gmod tried it with a gamemode called Morbius (I think that's the name). Problem is, there wasn't really any objectives or reason to cooperate with anyone else in the server. Typically what would happen was people would find weapons, then just shoot anyone that got too close to them. Couple that with there not being a punishment for killing someone that wasn't an alien and people worked out it was easier to just morph into their monster form, kill someone, and then just swarm anyone not turned

Well, first of all, the sequel was not rumored. It was painfully obviously telegraphed by the ass-wipping shitfest of an ending of Alien: Isolation. Second of all, Sega made a clear, open statement that they were hugely dissappointed the sales of this game, and that it made them reconsider whenever they want to franchise it.

fuck dude, you need to like horror and stealth games to like this one.

that said, towards the end it gets a little old-school with the level design and pushing buttons.

It's more about losing yourself in the environment than perfectly figuring out game mechanics like some esports 15 year old.

Yep. Isolation was actually the only game that got into green digits that year in Sega's amazingly awful lineup that year. And the biggest commercial success the company had in like three or four years.
But yeah... I guess they expected it to be a CoD like success, to cover up for the MASSIVE FUCKING LOSES they have on Sonic fucking franchises.
>>
>>375795495
No shit Sega is retarded. The fact that Sonic games are still getting shat out, but Alien Isolation and Vanquish are shelved makes this more than obvious.

>>
>>375795230
All those assumptions. Never said anything about "solving mechanics" or hating horror / stealth games. In fact, I've been playing horror games since before graphics were a requirement.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lurking_Horror

It isn't the gameplay I'm having issues with. It is the initial pacing. A game shouldn't have to run solely on "People keep telling me it becomes amazing at the Medical Bay, so I should keep going at least until I've made it through there before judging."
>>
>>375785776
Holy shit that sounds so amazing

That said i dunno why Sega won't fund a sequel, the first one sold well enough, sure not COD numbers but that's okay

>>
>>375795862
Dude, play it or don't. I got to the medical bay in under 2 hours (and you actually meet the Alien before that). It's building atmosphere as well as introducing hazards (and solutions) one at a time before throwing everything at you at once.
>>
>>375795948
The burning ones are freakier
>>
>>375795948
Can't believe there's a trophy for killing one using only the pistol/shotgun. I've never done it, because I can't bring myself to waste resources like that.
>>
>>375795862
It's like a movie man. Sometimes the enemies are robots, sometimes it's the alien, sometimes it humans.

The first encounter with the alien is the medical bay.

That level is a bit of a casual filter because it takes a little getting use to how the Alien tracks you... on hard at least.

Like I tell people about not dropping The Witcher 2 until you're almost done with Flotsam (about a 3rd into the game).

I will people not to drop Alien Isolation until you've done the medical bay.
>>
>>375785642
Why tho? Did it flop?
>>
>>375796164
>The first encounter with the alien is the medical bay.
First encounter with the Alien is before that. You meet him the first time shortly after getting that door unlocker.
>>

>>
>>375785375
Official VR support when?
Where's the re-release for PSVR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive?
>>
>>375796228
The first level with you trying to escape it is the medical bay.
>>
>>375796196
Nah it sold well, Creative Assembly started another team for AAA Multiplat games since Total War wasn't selling that good, but Total Warhammer & it's DLC sold like hotcakes (possibly the most profitable game at Sega) so the multiplat team got moved to Total Warhammer 2 & Ai 2 scrapped
>>
>>375796196
>Flop

No, it did really well.

>Sega expecting too much of it

That's the more likely reason. Although, if I was Sega, the fact that an Alien game did well after Colonial Marines would be enough.
>>
>>375796196
It didn't, but maybe the DLC didn't sell well so Sega thought it wasn't worth it.

Also,
>>375796349
>>
>>375796319
You can trigger an encounter before getting on the first tram if you wait too long.

You can trigger an encounter if you run after getting off the first tram.

You WILL trigger an encounter in the area down the stairs when you look to replace the door unlocker fuse or whatever.

You can trigger an encounter after going back up the stairs after replacing the fuse for the door unlocker.

Any time the Alien is around, you need to "escape it." The Medical Bay is just the first area where it's never very far away.

Spent so many hours on this game and it's sad that CA won't make a new one.
>>
>>375785642
Apparently most of the people at CA who worked on the Isolation are no longer working there so we're kind of hopeless.

Maybe Covenant will prove Alien is hot property and Sega will get the team together to make a sequel.
>>
The other problem is that I don't know of another good franchise to pull this sort of game off with.

Part of the Alien Isolation was the Alien AI, but if you port this whole game and concept to another franchise, another monsters, etc; it might not work.

As a fan of the Alien movies, seeing the game being so faithful to the look and feel of the first Alien movie was a big draw to the game.
>>
>>375796591
I never did that before the medical bay. Neither have any other videos I watched online.
>>
>>375796726
Could work with Predator, except change the AI from sneaking in vents to how it sets up traps, like when you enter a level, it is going around in said level and putting traps everywhere.

Honestly, I just want to see the coding behind the AI of the Alien. Shit's neat.

Also, people are going to puke a LOT. You're also going to be repairing dozens and dozens of fuse boxes.

It sold well enough for the game to reccoup it's cost, but not enough to make a profit that was worth the equivalent of the development time.

I gave it up after 7 hours in. It was the perfect example of ruining a great potential with trendy "horror-stealth, immortal 1hit-AI vs you".

What, you thought you should have been able to go up against an Alien and outright win?

I thought that good gamedesinger might be able to do the alien encounters fun and not chore-inducing.

It was fun to me.

I myself don't like the fact that I cannot kill an alien.

Then this game will not be for you. Perhaps you would prefer Aliens: Colonial Marines.

I don't know man, there are a lot of not recommended reviews

How do you even make a sequel to this? It would just be the same thing again.

Its a game that lets you kill aliens. It's rated lower because it isn't realistic that a small team of humans (let alone one) could take on a group of aliens and come out on top, let alone doing it over and over and over and over again.

The Alien vs Predator trilogy sounds like your thing, you can murder plenty of xenos. The first one is old as fuck, the 2nd one too but its gameplay is enjoyable, the campaigns are fun. The 2010 reboot is the best of the 3.

Are the guys there meant to be humans or space jockeys?

The 2nd.

>/v/ now likes walking simulators
Hopefully sequel never.

I'd say the pure lack of any kind of method you have of dealing with the alien earlier in the game is why it works so well as a horror game. I've never played anything that has unsettled me as much as isolation did. In other no fighting horror games at least you can run away but in alien, all you can do is hide and pray to whatever gods you know that the thing doesn't find you.

Why does everything need to have a sequel? Sequels just end up ruining the whole thing and watering them down into piles of shit.
>>
Good game. Very good atmosphere, design, and 'feel'. Game should've been much shorter though. I just wished for the game to end during the last hours for it. So much walking, backtracking here and there and just when you thought you were finally finished there was even more to do.

I kind of like the story of alien, the espionage between corporations and their competitive tech race thing.
