Mostly it's the boost system. It allows for a decent amount of depth for a kart racer that doesn't have to rely on exploits like snaking for MKDS

Also adventure mode is bretty fun

it's intuitive, and satisfying. the game is easy to pick up and learn the mechanics through experience. and the game feels good when you're playing it. the animation, sound and controller vibration really make the powerslide boost system work. i know it's probably slower, but CTR genuinely feels faster than mario kart at its highest speed, at least in my experience

IMO DKR has better environments and it's more colorful than CTR.
Better Music too.
People say that CTR's drift boost is the best, I can see why, but I like DKR's one more, it's so good that shit characters like Krunch become decent.
The vast amount of Zippers make the karts feel faster.
Variety of Vehicles with different stats and mechanics.
The only downside of DKR are it's easy difficulty, kinda bland roster, short tracks and the repetitiveness of the coin challenge,but outside that, DKR is more fun to play.

the logic being that the boost system fucking rules, which makes the game fun to play. the tracks are designed to reward efficient boosting. mastery of the mechanic gives the scant number of tracks a huge amount of replayability. the adventure mode gives you a structure to develop your skills naturally.
