I think what might be happening is that he's building a big chain and is getting closer to the top of his board, but any decent chain's worth of garbage can fuck him up with the right timing and it seems weirdly easy to get that timing on complete accident.

Combos and more technical tricks like All-Clears, T-Spin clears, and B2Bs will help. The former is using T-Blocks spun into gaps, B2B is when all consecutive clears are considered more difficult than things like single lines (you can still place pieces in between). The faster you clean your board the more time you'll be able to clear garbage to send back.

Any Puyo masters able to help me out with this?
Everything was going good until I got these 4 blues in a row. I don't know where I can put them without making the red puyos garbage or triggering my chain.
Would it be better to just try to match them to get them to go away?

Another thing worth knowing is that if you rotate a piece twice it'll reach the bottom slightly faster. So quickly 180ing that first blue would be better than just holding down.

Alternatively, I think you could place it in the empty column on the right, then place two reds to create a group of three on the upper right side, then stack another two blues in the rightmost column to create an additional chain of blues after the reds would pop in the chain. Should I have used a picture reference...? Oh, but even if you do that, you'll have the two blues in the upcoming two pieces to contend with first. The other guys' ideas were probably better.

The second floor is really hard for me, for some reason.
Here the yellows can't be popped unless I break the chain on the first floor. The only other way to do it is to pop it from behind, which is fine, but that's not what I'm practicing for.

Honestly the most autistic/demanding part of that tetris play is purposely using what you're given to set up t-spins, but if you notice most of his t-spin set ups come from the green Z's he leaves near his designated gutter, which is that empty space he leaves on purpose to complete lines. It's most obvious when he is building up to the Tetris before he drops the line piece.

The real, real difficult part is properly rotating his pieces before hard dropping it. That's some real shit right there.

Honestly the tl;dr on how do I become slightly competent at Tetris is just always be building your gutter, be able to find a use for every piece you're given, and remember the only reason you shouldn't be hard dropping is if you fucked up and need a mid-drop rotation or you're T-spinning.

I think this was actually Sony's doing. The Arcade and Dreamcast versions still used 2D puyo and had no camera changes, but when trying to port to the rest of the consoles, Sony slapped them with that "No 2D" bullshit rule that's sometimes in effect and sometimes isn't, so they made the puyos 3D and had the camera try to show that off to let it onto the PS2 and the GC and Xbox ports simply followed in that decision. Though you can turn this off in the options anyways.

That translation really went overboard with the math, probably would've snuck in a "Mathematical" if Adventure Time existed back then. PPT at least knew to keep it only in gameplay and out of the story.

I wish there was a training mode which was essentially Puyo Puyo but without the pieces dropping down in real-time and you could take your time to work out where to put your Puyos.
